Here's an excerpt from this link:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/archive/23633.html

Quote:
On November 1, 2001, the California Court of Appeals reversed the court's preliminary injunction and confirmed that the publication of DeCSS is protected by the First Amendment. Bunner and his legal team have asked the court to recognize that because DeCSS is widely available on the Internet, it cannot be considered a trade secret.
So I don't think he has so much to worry about anymore.

Here's a link from CNN about his aquittel today: http://search.cnn.com/cnn/redir?sour...n%2Findex.html

What's there now to hold Avery Lee back from re-implementing ASF into Virtual Dub?

This is by Norwegian justice, so perhaps Avery should move to Norway?

I don't think we should push Avery. He did it out of the goodness of his heart in the first place. To whit MS came and stomped all over it. The specs for decoding are out now so anyone could add this functionality in. In fact it has been so. Virtualdub-MOD already has it IIRC. Then there are the ASF tools as well. They will losslessly convert if possible. But problems still arrise with Directshow only ASF locked proprietary MS codecs.

Jon Johansen must go to court again

New development in the deCSS case in Norway. The police has with "support from the MPA" appealed the verdict in the Jon Johansen case. So lets hope the higher court will uphold fair use in Norway.

See the story here: http://www.nettavisen.no/servlets/pa...=9&item=251064 (Norwegian)
