Why DVD2SVCD is making more CDs from an DivX-Movie than i set

Hi Folks,

it doesn´t work: When i let DVD2SVCD encode a DivX-File to a SVCD and set in the Bitrate folder the maximum of 2 CDs for film, it ever created 3 CD-Bins.
The third bin track is only 6 MB big, or so.

I changed the maximum of CDs in every folder to 2, but DVD2SVCD creates 3 CDs!

What´s the fault?

Thanks for your help, but sorry it doesn´t word right. Everytime I get 3 CDs.

Okay, i tried to set the Minimum Bitrate to 0, but as shown in the logfile is doesn´t work.

I added my logfile to this post. Maybe there are some nice helpful people outthere, who can solve my problem:

Hello PaperCup,

the avi2svcd feature of dvd2svcd is still in alpha-stage, so there still might be some issues with the proper bitrate calculation for an avi conversion.

But I can see from the log that you've used a CD size of only 795MB instead of the full 800MB - why that? - Already tried that setting for solving the problem?

You can use the "Crash recovery" option, load the *.d2s file set the CD size to 800 and then restart from "Muxing and cutting" or you could hand edit the "dvd2svcd project file.d2s" file and set bbMPEGCDSize=800 or 795 in your case if you want to stay with a lower CD size then restart from "Muxing and Cutting" again.

Now it sayes:
Cannot open the AVI file. This is probably because you haven't installed the prober codec. try loading the AVI file in VirtualDUB and see what error you might get there.

What now ??

which video codec (divx version) and audio codec are used in the avi? are you sure you have the codecs installed properly?

Video is DIVX4, 20 Frame/sek. and Audio is MPEG LAYER3
Regarding prober install of codex, I dont know. How do I check ?

I find tmpgenc works great for reencoding divx files

I never tried it with dvd2svcd yet so I cant comment on the quality it makes..

But I know dvd2svcd rules for encoding DVDs

I had a lot of divx avi's that dvd2svcd would not encode. I could not open the files in Virtualdub to check the properties either.
After going to www.divx-digest.com and downloading and installing the latest divx codec (4.12), all my problems disappeared.
Btw dvd2svcd (with CCE) produces much better results converting avi's to svcd than TMPGEnc. Now if I can find a way to use a 2 part avi set as source in dvd2svcd, I will be all set!

HI PaperCup,

I had a similar problem when working in the DVD2SVCD mode. In my case I think the problem arose because I was using mpeg2 files with a non-standard frame rate. 30 fps vs 29.97 fps as created by a Dazzle capture, which I think gave me more frames than expected and a slightly too large file size. I don't know if the same problem could exist in your avi capture. I was able to work around the problem by selecting "Don't make images" in the CD image tab. For some reason this changes the CD cut point by 1 mb. In your posted log text the CD Size would be unchanged at 795.00 but the cut point would become 791.

CDSize: 795.00
Cut point 790.00
to
CDSize: 795.00
Cut point 791.00

That was enough in my case to give me the right number of CD's. If you check "don't delete any files" in the misc tab you will end up with the right number of mpg files that you can author yourself or you can start avi2svcd from crash recovery at the SVCD authoring stage after you make a new selection on the CD image page.

Who knows? Maybe it will work for you too.
