len0x,

I do not know what happened, but somehow my account here got tricked off, and I no longer had priviledges to post on the board. I got tired of waiting for a response from the admins on this forum and just made a new account. Anyways, I still have a few hundred gigs of unused bandwidth, so if you want me to setup an account for you on one of them let me know.

if size is 1400Mb or 2100Mb then movie is always split. chnage it to 1401 for instance to avoid splitting.

Ok this is odd. I compressed Pirates Of The Caribbean twice, using the same settings each time, except a larger file size. The first time I encoded it at 650 MB, the second time at 950 MB. What I don't understand is why the audio would be much much quieter with the larger rip. I used the same audio track and there aren't any other options to mess with the audio with. Granted I am using the (now) obsolete .48 but so far I have been happy with it and why screw with a good thing? Would Windows' volume control settings have any effect on the volume of the audio that gets compressed? TIA

BTW Thanks sooooo much for all your hard work on this project, Len0x. I LOVE this program!

answer is simple: for 700Mb or smaller rips MP3 audio used which is made from AC3 with "normalize" option. for large rips original AC3 audio is used. You can boost AC3 volume by installing AC3filter and boosting levels there...

Hi Lenox, yesterday I've tried AutoGK 0.68 with the movie "Far from heaven", italian version. I've used DivX 5.1.1 Pro, MP3 CBR@112 and I've fit it in 1 cd (700 Megs), 'cause the CT was really good (more than 75%@608*320). Anyway, the result is not very good, even if there are no high motion scenes, the film is very bright and colorful, and the resolution is obviously too high, so there are too many artifacts.
I know it's not a direct AutoGK fault, but I want you to know.

This is my log:

external subtitles support ?

Hello !

would you consider include an option in AutoGK (maybe in advance tab) to choose between 'burned in' subtitles and 'external' subtitles (.idx, .sub(RARed)) which may be also auto-splitted.

Thanks!

I've done that movie myself not so long ago with divx 5.1.1 as well.
it was 2CDs, 6ch AC3 track, 704*xxx (bitrate above 1500). I didn't feel like it was a perfect job either. That was one of 5-6 divx 5.1.1 rips I've done and all of them were not quite satisfying to me. I felt like 5.0.5 did better job. After that I switched to XviD

About the movie itself - it is quite difficult for divx 5.1.1 since it has that blurry glow which you can find in most old movies (I do lots of them that's why 5.1.1 is not ideal for me). Such source causes major problems for divx...

I've been thinking about it for a while - but I have a problem: care to tell me if there is freeware rar software ?

Didn't knew that, thank you! I think I'll switch to Xvid too, it's about time. Of course I will not try divx 5.05 with AutoGK, with my usual test vob CT was even more optimistic, probably it would have choosen an even higher resolution.

Bye, Yotsuya.

@len0x

When i choose Input directory I got:
"Access violation at address 00404446 in module 'GkItFast4U.exe'. Read of address FFFFFFF9."
I searched this thread because I remembered I saw something similar posted...
I found out that it was a problem since 0.45beta and its because you restricted reading up to 16 of subs and audio languages.
I checked and I found out that there are 24 subtitle files and 6 audio on the DVD. In fact this is the second DVD I found with such a large number of subs (I live in Greece and most DVDs distributed here are also distributed in the Balcans so they have added subtitles for many languages), which all of them are real. So could you maybe increase the limit to something like 32?
If I may ask what is the purpose of that limitation?

@len0x,

I noticed you are using joint stereo when converting to MP3. Not sure in this case, but in the audio forums it's sort of a big no-no to use joint stereo. Do you have new info on the matter?

isn't it because of the -abr 'switch' ???... if -alt preset(s) are used then it would be 'stereo' but that would mean larger file size for audio as well...

as we're on the subject:

for 96kbits audio - would it be possible to implement 'resample 48' -> change from -abr 96 to –alt preset 96 – resample 48 ?? that would be nice

and one question though: do you use the ‚chroma optimizer‘ as a default setting?? If not I guess it could be set to default, as speed vs. quality isn’t affected... but quality would profit from it (in my opinion) and it’s still watchable on standalones

cheers Sill
