luminance/brightness for divx
Let me start with a brief introduction:
Being forced to carefully read several threads before being allowed to post in this forum, I have come to the conclusion, that dark looking divx files aren't really dark, its the video card settings that need to be adjusted. Having discovered that, I will never touch settings like Luminance and/or Gain in DVD2AVI or something similar. However, some questions still remain: What is it with this Luminace setting in DVD2AVI? Does it really influence the output file? (Cause it doesn't seem to do anything) I have only encoded 2 or 3 movies using GK until now, and the quality is really marvellous (espeacially if you go for 2 CDs). As you see, I am kind of a newbie on this terrain, so please share your wisdom with me, people Thanks in advance P.S.: Until now I mostly encoded SVCDs with DVD2SVCD (<- great program) because I could use 2 audio tracks. But now that standalone DVD Players with DivX support become affordable...

First of all, thanks for the quick answer!
Sorry for placing the post in the "wrong" forum @Cyberia: I'll try that as soon as I can. At the moment my system is down: my (512 MB ) memory module is not working properly , so I returned it to the dealer last week. Until now, no response ! concerning DVD2AVI: When I create SVCDs with DVD2SVCD, I use the luminance setting and it really shows in the results. However with my DivX projects so far I couldn't really see any difference. But I guess my question is, whether or not I should use this setting. (As I already found out, DivX movies aren't as dark as they appear; keyword: overlay settings of video cards) And, have I made my movies too bright if I used it? Hoping the post doesn't have to be moved to another forum again , I thank you once more!

The movies really aren't dark, it's your equipment that needs calibrated. I went through a period like that as well. |
