attachment need approval please upload the image somewhere else.

because both potplayer and mpc-hc use EVR or a variant of it as a default renderer can you test madVR?

...as long as you aren't using an Asus or Creative audio device as their drivers "cheat the system" and make WASAPI exclusive be, well, non-exclusive.

(this can be easily tested in a program like foobar2000 with it configured to output via WASAPI exclusive - simply try playing back an audio file with a weird sampling rate like 43210Hz, and if your audio device handles WASAPI exclusive properly then foobar2000 will throw up an error, but if it cheats and eliminates the exclusive functionality then foobar2000 will play the according audio without issue)

What's so confusing about it? Yes, native as in I wouldn't need to install another piece of software for the sole purpose of playing 10 seconds HDR video on SDR display once a month (which is the only madVR feature I require). I'm fine with EVR and how it's integrated with MPC-HC.

Yes, I know that MPC-BE supports it. I suppose I should have mentioned I am not interested in MPC-BE either, at least for now.

I just find it odd that you want people to implement things for you that have already been implemented. You don't want to use any of the good solutions already available, but for no particular reason. madVR is a very lightweight install and it is well integrated with MPC-HC, just give it a try. If you want HDR tone mapping in MPC-HC that is how to get it.

Quick question about the built-in youtube-dl vertical resolution setting and the following 2.37 aspect ratio video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ClvOQTke7w

When I select 1080p on the actual YouTube web page as normal, you get 1920x810 as is to be expected as YouTube's quality/resolution labels are actually a slight misnomer since YouTube decides a given quality/resolution based on the horizontal or the vertical resolution. Since fmt137 (AVC 1080p30) and/or fmt248 (VP9 1080p30) maxes out at 1920x1080, this means both 1920x810 and 1440x1080 videos would still be considered "1080p".

However, the built-in youtube-dl vertical resolution setting in MPC-HC does not seem to follow this same pattern as the actual YouTube web page.

When this MPC-HC youtube-dl setting is set to 1080p, rather than playing fmt137 or fmt248, it will actually play fmt271 (the format YouTube labels "1440p" which supports a maximum resolution of 2560x1440), because the wide aspect ratio results in a resolution of 2560x1080 whereby the vertical resolution is 1080 pixels.

So my question is very simple - is this in fact the intended behavior in MPC-HC's implementation of youtube-dl?

It is obviously not intended. But I am not going to add even more options. Seem to me that this wide video is a rare occurrence on YT.

I never expected you to add more options, rather just perhaps tweak the current implementation so that it also takes into account the horizontal resolution behind-the-scenes when choosing a given quality.

My idea was that setting the option (1080 in our example) would have it work like it currently does where it looks at the vertical resolution, but it then also takes said value (1080 in this case) and multiplies it by 1.8 (resulting a value of 1944) to use for the horizontal resolution, and then only selects the video resolution that is equal to or smaller than the two given values.

Someone know if you can disable auto loading subtitles ? But not disable them completely. It is annoying to have to press 2 times s everytime video opens, while it is lagged yet.

The stuff under Options\Subtitles\Misc might do what you want.

Try:
During playback click "Play"->"Filters"->"LAV Splitter"->"Properties". Set "Subtitle Selection Mode" to "No Subtitles".

You can also toggle subtitles on/off with W.

This is really one of the weaknesses of MPC-HC. The several options influencing this clattered throughout the GUI. LAV isn't integrated well, i.e. you have MPC-HC priority for audio/subtitle and a separate one for LAV.

Well, maybe it's true, but the same applies to every other DS player that can utilise LAV

Hello people. I hope if I'm posting in the right thread, I apologize if I am not.

I'm trying to get "compact" view on MPC-HC when playing audio files. I have two versions of MPC-HC: 1.7.13 (2017) and 1.7.0 (2013). On the older version when playing an audio file, the OSD becomes "compact" but in the newer version playing an audio file would still display the MPC-HC logo screen like a video. I tried searching in settings or the View but did not find anything to enable compact OSD on the newer build. Anyone know how to?

This is a screenshot showing the newer version (top) and older version (bottom) https://imgur.com/a/LghTz2T

I just downloaded MPC-HC 1.8.6 x64 to check for you. Advanced settings (last page) and set CoverArtSizeLimit to 0. But if you have any file(s) with CoverArt, this is disabled by this setting. This is also the difference between your two versions. CoverArt support was added. Be sure to check latest MPC-HC 1.8.6 with additional features and bugfixes and worth a try to check MPC-BE as well (my favourite videoplayer).

For audio files I can recommend foobar2000 (I use it also for many years), I use MPC-BE for special audio filetypes, because it is designed as videoplayer primarily, and so is MPC-HC.

Hope it helps

Thank you, it worked! I love the classic compact WMP design. I think CoverArtSizeLimit should probably default to 0, but oh well.

1.8.6? I thought I was on the latest version since development stopped. EDIT: OK it seems that MPC-HC is still being updated! I wonder what it offers, as I don't usually expect much from an update of such program.

I personally use Winamp as my (library) music player, but set MPC-HC as the default Windows audio file player for playing files from Explorer. I like to keep Winamp as strictly my entire music collection. Once again, thanks!
