If you set madVR into side-by-side mode in the display options, then it will not do mode switching for 3D. My guess is that your settings are not actually identical, because even if you copy the settings file you need to re-configure the display part on each system.
Also, if you don't have a 3D display, what good is side-by-side mode anyway?

If you sellotape a piece of cardboard vertically down your face between your eyes and sit just at t the right distance from the TV you can emulate a 3D monitor.

The settings are identical. The difference is that my secondary PC only supports 59 Hz and 60 Hz, thus madVR cannot find a suitable 1920x1080 mode and just doesn't change the display mode at all. Primary PC supports 23, 24, 59, 60, 85, 100, 120, 144 Hz. SBS mode is fine for VR headsets. You can't directly shove the video onto the HMD but need a software player that creates a virtual display or screen in VR. Basically all of these players support SBS. |

steam supports this BTW.
using madVR and some settings in steam where used as a guide to get 3D video playback into VR headset may years back and on top of it smooth motion was highly recommended because of the 90 hz issue. |

You already figured this out but SBS is not 3D from madVR's point of view (it is not using a 3D output format).

Please update your Nvidia driver to latest GRD, for infos see also my dedicated driver thread:
AMD, Intel and Nvidia driver issues and last recommended version Please report back if done, perhaps better in the driver thread, since it is driver related at least I think so for now. |

MADVR - duplicate monitors - one with HDR / one without HDR
Is this possible? I cant get it working with my second monitor duplicated to the TV. TV is HDR capable (and it works if its extended) and the monitor is not Any particular setup for this, if its possible? I maybe shoulve asked in this thread instead of making a new thread about it, not sure. Thanks |

it should work but you might need to have the TV as primary, i'm not sure really. I'm using my TV as my main monitor but I also have a non HDR HDMI dummy plug which I use for teamviewer remote connections, teamviewer drops to 480p if you dont have an active monitor turned on.
HDR works fine on my setup, i have mine setup as only show on monitor 1 though (TV), however it also works if I duplicate, it doesnt work if I extend.

Could someone give me a tip what settings to use to upscale 240p-360p material as best as possible? Of course it looks shitty so upscaling wont do miracles. Still.....someone said add a bit of grain and then sharpen it?!
So under "chroma upscaling" and "image upscaling" what do I pick there, NGU Anti-Alias? What about under processing" what to do there under "image enhancements" and maybe "artifact removal"? God bless you in advance |

if it is high quality 240+360p which i doubt you can use NGU sharp add grain helps NGU quite a lot in this case. if the quality is not "pristine" and the image has compression artifacts just use NGU AA and try add grain.
the rest is content specific. |

i personally not aware of a situation where NGU sharp is better then NGU aa for chroma i would generally use NGU AA or super xbr for chroma. this is totally different from image doubling chroma where the same algorithm is preferred and that what madVR trys to use.
you find add grain under upscale refinements in the past it was only usable for NGU sharp i know it works for NGU AA too now but not sure about the rest of the scaler. the grain is added before scaling this somehow help NGU sharp in upscaling beware at a low resolution the grain can get quite big. RCA and RRN have heavy effects on the image quality even on good source that's why it should be set depending on the source. the results of NGU sharp change heavily if they are used because NGU sharp can't handle low image quality/compression artifacts and often enhance them. RCA and RRN make the image pretty soft so using some sharpening filter to counter this is a good idea in such a situation but again heavily depends on the content so i can't do a recommendation here. |

For some reason are 10 bit videos more demanding to upscale than an 8 bit ones? Both files full HD and scaling to 4K, using the same profiles and there are some huge differences here between the rendering times which I've confirmed on the OSD.
Showing the renderingsteps only shows that the bulk of it is going to chroma and NGU doubling. Is this normal? First time I've seen it. |
