VIDEO_TS.VOB is important?

I've backup 2 DVDs - PART 1 and II - one contains the VIDEO_TS.VOB and the other do not have it. Both works perfeclty.

Why one contains and the other not? It is because I didn't remove the PUOPS?

The VIDEO_TS.VOB file will only exist if there is actual video in the VIDEO_TS Menu. I'm guessing that the disc with Part I is probably the one with the VIDEO_TS.VOB and likely contains copyright warning or initial language menu.

A similar situation holds true for VTS_xx_0.VOB - it will only exist if there is actual video in the VTS menu.

VIDEO_TS.VOB is an optional file.
If there is video/audio-content in vmg-domain (title-menu) then there is a VIDEO_TS.VOB file.
(Note: Some authoring progs (DVD Studio Pro,Maestro) create always a VIDEO_TS.VOB, although there is no referenced content in it)

If there are buttons in it that reference titles (which is often the case), you should not delete it, but rather edit out the segments you don't want like FBI warnings, promos etc.

There's nothing in it. The size of that file is 76 KB. If I delete it, it will say that the reference... is missing.

You can see that it's only a reference... No video/audio is there.

P.S: You'll notice that this DVD is oversized. I'll rebuild it to make DVD-9...

A VOB file might be referenced but never really used. In this case, you cannot simply delete it.

However, you can delete it with PgcEdit. Right-click on any PGC pertaining to the right domain (any VMGM PGC for VIDEO_TS.VOB) and select "Blank Out all menu PGCs". When asked if you want to remove completely the VOB file, answer yes. Save.

Having it there is not all bad - it provides a tiny buffer against lineal scratches and hopefully puts the BUP on the other side of the disk compared to the IFO.

VobBlanker does this with its adjust input sectors function.

I'd leave it alone.

Okay, something is wrong and I want to know.

Here's the test:

VIDEO_TS.VOB NOT removed: when playing with PowerDVD, can seek the time through navigation slider. i.e. I input 2:34 and it jump to that part.

VIDEO_TS.VOB removed: when playing with PowerDVD, cannot seek the time with navigation slider (not working). I input 2:34 (or any number) and load from the beginning of that title.

Is there a way to repair that? Or I should leave the VIDEO_TS.VOB intact? Because in others video, the VIDEO_TS.VOB is not there and it's working fine.

Removing the VIDEO_TS.VOB file with PgcEdit should not disable the navigation slider. Have you modified something else (Enable All Operations, for example)?
Anyway, PowerDVD, like many software players, is very picky with its seek slider. If you want to watch the movie on a standalone player, don't worry too much, but burn a RW first to check.

Nope, I did as you said in the previous reply.

Right click and "blank out all VTS menu" in the VMGM.

I tried it and the navigation slider is not working, so I take the VIDEO_TS.VOB from backup folder and put it back (did not restore the backup folder) and the slider works.

It's weird... Perhaps, PowerDVD depends on this file?

You cannot do that! Again, the VOB, IFO and BUP files are tied together. If you restore the VOB, you must restore everything (including the other files, as they are referenced by VIDEO_TS.IFO)

I agree! PowerDVD is really not a good player, especially to test your modifications. Use Media Player Classic (MPC), VLC or the IfoEdit preview. They are free.
