Manual: BeSweet Commandline Reference

Hi @all.

We all know that BeSweet's documentation is not what everyone would like it to be. Especially a complete single volume reference of all switches and their meaning is missing. This is my attempt at writing such a reference.
Quote:
From the PDF's introduction
This document contains an overview of all of BeSweet's commandline parameters and their interaction. It is a translation of the German "BeSweet-Kommandozeilenreferenz", which I started because of the lack of good German documentation for BeSweet. But even in English there is no single document summarising BeSweet's abilities. That is why I decided to do a translation.
Recent version available here: http://brother-john.net/besweet-reference.html.

Of course any comments are welcome. I'd really be surprised if there wasn't room for improvement.

Disclaimer *g*: My native language is not English and this is my first serious translation task. You definitely WILL find some weird language. When you do, tell me! I guess ROFL about my funny use of the English language is useful to save a grey and rainy day but that's not really the point of the document ... well, at least not the whole point.

Note to German speaking users:
Die deutsche Version gibt es in diesem Thread auf dem Doom9/Gleitz-Board: Handbuch: BeSweet-Kommandozeilenreferenz.

I just noticed a little missing :

By the way, it will be very useful for BeSweet beginners I think.

Impressive work
By a brief look, I found a small errata in page 8 - "if the source file" should obviously be replaced with "if the destination file".
Also, even though "--resample 44.1" (hardwiredly) works, BeSweet's Lame's resample switch should be feeded with "hz" values.

And may i suggest adding a link to BeSweet's FAQ thread ? useful information about channel orderings can be found there.

Cheers,
Dg.

Tremendous work! As for the translation, I'm a technical writer by profession and it looks fine to me. Well done!

Thanks for the feedback so far. A corrected version is online (link in the first post). I added a link to the BeSweet FAQ. Good idea, DSPguru.

@yaz
Some prefer PDF, some prefer HTML, some prefer latex source code ...
I had to chose one and was in the mood for PDF this time.

@ursamtl
Good to hear that. Thanks.

Oh, and - though it's almost over - happy Easter!

Sure. Go ahead!
When they're up, I'll add a link in the first post.

I'd be happy to help out. It's gonna take a little time, however, since I'm in the middle of moving my residence over the next two months.

I second a French translation. That would be really great.

@ursamtl
Look again, it's there: "32 bit floating point waves without a size limit."

Maybe the line got moved to page 4? Though fonts are embedded, so this should not happen.

Yes, I missed the bit about 32-bit files on first reading. I'm already working on the French translation.

That's great news!
Would it be any help for you to have the OpenOffice document? I temporarily put it up here: http://home.arcor.de/brotherjohn_zeug/bs_clref_sxw.zip.

Sectie.B just pointed out another typo via PM. Page 3, chapter 3.1 "The -core() Section". Right at the beginning in the syntax overview. "-playload" should of course read "-payload".

I won't upload a new version just because of that. Let's wait a little, if more errors pop up.

Using lame_enc.dll v1.32 (8/8/2003), Engine 3.90 <http://www.mp3dev.org/>.

Logging start : 06/22/05 , 21:10:39.

Logging ends : 06/22/05 , 21:11:45.

Is there a switch that i can use in order to have error correction?
There is no comment for that on your pdf

By the way i am using virtual dub mod to extract wav out of an mpeg file...

Thx in advance,Spyrus

You can enable error protection with the -p switch:
Code:
-lame( -b 224 -p )
However I remember someone (could have been Gabriel Bouvigne himself) stating that error protection is pretty useless. I forgot his arguments, though.

In Lame.html, subfolder Help of BeSweet:

" -p error protection
Turn on CRC error protection.
It will add a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) code in each frame, allowing to detect transmission errors that could occur on the MP3 stream. However, it takes 16 bits per frame that would otherwise be used for encoding, and then will slightly reduce the sound quality. "
