Daddy Day Care [Region 1] WideScreen or FullScreen Cheat Sheet

Daddy Day Care [Region 1] WideScreen or FullScreen Cheat Sheet
Courtesy of 2CL

UPDATE: October 2, 2003 > This guide has been corrected on movie resuming.

Tools I used
IFOedit 0.95
DVD Decrypter in File Mode
MenuEdit for viewing button commands
Title Information
Title 1: VTS_01 contains your WideScreen movie
A value of 1 in GPreg<7> plays your WideScreen movie. This is your widescreen button command in your aspect ratio selection menu.

Title 2: VTS_03 contains your FullScreen movie
A value of 2 in GPreg<7> plays your FullScreen movie. This is your fullscreen button command in your aspect ratio selection menu.

Menuedit can be use on this DVD’s menu VOB (VTS_01_0.VOB) to view the buttons commands in your aspect ratio selection menu which is in VOB-ID 1 and Cell ID 5. It should say 2 buttons.
__________________________________________________________
1. Create a folder named “DDC” and a subfolder named “Files”.
__________________________________________________________
2. Rip the all files to your “DDC” folder.
__________________________________________________________
3. Open VIDEO_TS.IFO with IFOedit and press “Get VTS Sectors” buttons to load other IFOs. Press OK for all message box to correct.
__________________________________________________________
4. Region Free every IFO and save commands if Region Code Encoding (RCE) is detected. I do this out of habit especially if I decided to use SmartRipper instead.
__________________________________________________________
5. Backup all IFO and BUP files to “Files” subfolder. It’s a good practice to backup your original files prior to editing. In case you mess up, you can always copy over your these files over your badly edited one and then press your “Get VTS Sectors” button to refresh data in IFOedit.
__________________________________________________________
6. Deleting Playback on Unwanted Stuff

In VIDEO_TS.IFO / VMG Overview / Language Menu Unit 1, do a Delete Playback on the following menus. Select and press your Delete Playback button. If successful, your number of Programs and Cells should be zero and (uses VOB-IDs: #) should disappear.

Language Menu Unit 1: [English]
Menu 1: [entry only]...(Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 1) Columbia Tristar Logo
Menu 2: [entry only]...(Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 2) Rated PG Movie Rating
Menu 3: [entry only]...(Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 3) FBI Warning
Menu 4: [entry only]...(Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 4) FBI Warning and Modified Format Comment
Menu 5: [entry only]...(Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 5) Blank Clip?
Menu 6: [entry only]...(Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 6) Blank Clip?
Menu 7: [entry only]...(Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 7) Blank Clip?

__________________________________________________________
7. Save VIDEO_TS.IFO
__________________________________________________________
8. Select your aspect ratio preference.
  • WIDESCREEN: Proceed to next step.
    FULLSCREEN: Go to step 15.
__________________________________________________________
WIDESCREEN

9. Bypassing Aspect Ratio Menu

Go to VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / PGC-MENU_5 / Cell Playback / Cell_7 section. We need to edit the following values below so that our aspect ratio menu does not display. Double click on line and enter new values. The ones in RED are what we need to work on.
Code:
OLD >

Cell_7: still time (seconds, 0xFF = Infinite) 255
Cell_7: command Nr (0 = no command) 0

NEW >

Cell_7: still time (seconds, 0xFF = Infinite) 0
Cell_7: command Nr (0 = no command) 4
Program 5 / Cell_5 is our aspect ratio menu clip and Program 7 / Cell_7 is a 1 second blank clip.
__________________________________________________________
10. Create New Cell Command

Since we had Cell_5 configured for to jump to Cell command #4, we need to create one. Read here on understanding cell commands.

Go to VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / PGC-MENU_5 / PGC Command Table. Right click on first Pre command and select “Add CellCommand”. You will get a new Cell Command #4 with a NOP. Hexedit Cell Command #4 as below. To hexedit, double left click on line, click in HexEditor Module, change old hex value to new hex value, and press OK. To refresh after edit, click on another PGC-Menu and click back into your edited PGC-Menu to verify correct changes.

OLD > 4.Cell Command..NOP......................................................[00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00]
New > 4.Cell Command..Set GPreg<7> mov (set-val)<1>(Link subset) LinkTailPGC...[71 01 00 07 00 01 00 0d]

After Cell_5 is done with playback, your DVD will jump to Cell Command #4 and execute it. We edited, with new value above, to set the value of GPreg<7> with 1 and go through the Post Commands again. Your main movie will play instead of aspect ratio selection menu.
__________________________________________________________
11. Go up to the PGC Command Table as hexedit two commands below with new values.

OLD > 19.Pre Command...(LinkPGN) Link Program 5, [button=1]...[20 06 00 00 00 00 04 05]
NEW > 19.Pre Command...(LinkPGN) Link Program 7, [button=0]...[20 06 00 00 00 00 00 07]

OLD > 12.Post Command..(LinkPGN) Link Program 5, [button=1]...[20 06 00 00 00 00 04 05]
NEW > 12.Post Command..(LinkPGN) Link Program 7, [button=0]...[20 06 00 00 00 00 00 07]

__________________________________________________________
12. Save VTS_01_0.IFO
__________________________________________________________
13. Blanking Out Fullscreen Movie

Use this guide and create a VTS_03_1.VOB to replace all your VTS_03_1.VOB to VTS_03_3.VOBs. I know it's a multi PGC Titleset but it'll still work here. We have to do this method so that DVD shrink will accept this VTS during analysis.
__________________________________________________________

14. Go to step 20.
__________________________________________________________

FULLSCREEN

Code:
OLD >

NEW >

Cell_7: still time (seconds, 0xFF = Infinite) 0
Cell_7: command Nr (0 = no command) 4
Program 5 / Cell_5 is our aspect ratio menu clip and Program 7 / Cell_7 is a 1 second blank clip.

Right click on any commands and select “Add CellCommand”.

New > 4.Cell Command..Set GPreg<7> mov (set-val)<2>(Link subset) LinkTailPGC...[71 01 00 07 00 02 00 0d]

After Cell_5 is done with playback, your DVD will jump to Cell Command #4 and execute it. We edited, with new value above, to set the value of GPreg<7> with 1 and go through the Post Commands again. Your main movie will play instead of aspect ratio selection menu.

19. Blanking Out Widescreen Movie

Use this guide and create a VTS_01_1.VOB to replace all your original VTS_01_1.VOB to VTS_01_3.VOBs. I know it's a multi PGC Titleset but it'll still work here. We have to do this method so that DVD shrink will accept this VTS during analysis.

20. The DVD is still at 4.49 GB (4,827,631,616 bytes) which is too big for a blank DVDR so you have 2 options.

A. You’re not too far away from 4.35 GB so it’s safe to use a transcoder software like DVD Shrink, DVD95Copy, DVD2One, or Instantcopy to successfully shrink the DVD without any loss in video quality.

B. You can use the guide again in Step 17 on VTS_04 to VTS_10 to get it below 4.35 GB. These are your trailers. You can try doing 2 and I suggest blanking 3 of them. Here are the titleset trailer descriptions. Note: This way is quicker.

VTS_04 / Title 10: Daddy Day Care
VTS_05 / Title 11: Annie
VTS_07 / Title 13: Matilda
VTS_08 / Title 14: Mona Lisa Smile
VTS_09 / Title 15: Peter Pan
VTS_10 / Title 16: Radio
VTS_06 / Title 12: The Master of Disguise

That’s for Widescreen/FullScreen. Burn what works for you. If you want to know what I used to burn this DVD, I used current Imgtools with reallocation unchecked and using current Nero’s API.

2Cool -

When you click on the play button on the menu, the movie doesn't play (tested in both IfoEdit and PowerDVD).

In looking at the Gpreg values when the 'Widescreen' selection is made on the unedited movie, the following Gpreg values change:

Gpreg0 goes from '0' to '1'
Gpreg8 goes from '0' to '4096'
Gpreg9 goes from '0' to '1'

I am going to try to edit this on my own within the next few days; I'll tell you if I come up with anything!

Figured it out!

Ok - here is what I did. Super simple too.

Gpreg 1, not Gpreg 7, controls Widescreen vs. Fullscreen. So, the only modification I made to the PGC Command table in VTS_01_0.IFO was to insert a precommand (I made it the very first one) to set Gpreg to either '1' or '2' (Hex commands 71 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 and 71 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 respectively). I selected to make a widescreen backup, so I used hex command 71 00 00 00 00 01 00 00.

I didn't add any cell commands, nor did I modify any other PGC commands other than the one I mentioned above.

Don't think this post is a disrespect to you, 2Cool. Quite frankly, I wouldn't have gotten as far as I did without reading all of your posts thus far! Keep up the great work!

...and...stripping out that French audio stream makes this movie 4.23 gig in size, just large enough to burn on one disc!!! Oh yeah - I stripped out the VTS_03_*.VOB files before imaging - everything plays perfectly.

A little help...

Hi Mr Cool...

I am struggling with aspect ratio menu removal on THE MEDALLION

Have you looked at this one... ?

I am close... I am messing it up in the right area... but not successful yet...

Do any of your current guides address this...? I have looked through a few but don't seem to find a cure...

Can you help...?

Thanks... Jeff

PS - I am also doing I CAPTURED THE CASTLE. It looks very similar... I am guessing if I could get one to work I could get them both !

THE MEDALLION is almost exactly the same.

Its in VTS01 / PGC-Menu_5 / Program 2 (Cell 2).
In PGC-Menu_5 I replaced all the Link Program 2 commands with Set GPreg<7> mov (set-val><1 or 2> (1 for WS, 2 for FS)

Sorry for the delay as I have been very busy with side projects. Sometimes, NTSC and PAL versions are authored differently so @geffroman, if it works for you then cool!. After doing alot of aspect ratio menu bypassing, I believe I may a generic solution to probably solve 99% of them but having the time to write the guide is what I don't have at this time.

I got it...

With the help of:

2Cool's Daddy Daycare Guide
NastyBob's Post
MenuEdit's HEX of Widescreen & Fullscreen buttons...

1) Find the exact Cell of the Widescreen/Fullscreen menu (MenuEdit helps for this)
2) Use MenuEdit to view the HEX of aspect button of choice
3) Use IFOEDIT to locate Prog Menu and change LINK command that refers to Widescreen/Fullscreen menu Cell/Prog
4) Change command to HEX of aspect button of choice previously located with MenuEdit

Medallion and I Capture the Castle will be on my Tele for this evenings viewing pleasure.

Merry Christmas and Thank you...

NEW Twist: Medallion works fine. But with "I Capture the Castle" I have developed an issue with the final disc. It operates perfectly within IfoEdit... However, on PowerDVD or in my stand alone I push PLAY from the DVD menu and it recycles the menu ONCE. I push play on the DVD menu a second time and it starts the movie correctly.

What have I missed...?

@geffroman

This is what I would do if I had your DVD. Here's a Reader's Digest Guide for the mean time.
____________________________________________
1. Create a new Cell Command in your VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / PGC-Menu_4 / PGC Command Table. You should have a new Cell Command #3. Right click in table and select.
____________________________________________
2. Hexedit your new Cell Command to the hex value of widescreen button's command. Find out using MenuEdit or VobEdit.
____________________________________________
3. Scroll down to your Cell Playback Section and change your Cell_4's "Command Nr" to 3. Also change the playback time to 192 (for NTSC) and "entry point sector" value will be the same as your "last sector of this cell". Basically, just like below. Oh, and change still time from 255 to 0.
Code:
  Cell_4: still time (seconds, 0xFF = Infinite) 0
  Cell_4: command Nr (0 = no command) 3
  Cell_4: playback time (BCD) 192
    playback time (hh:mm:ss.frame) 00:00:00.00 / 30 fps
Cell_4: entry point sector same as last sector
Cell_4: first ILVU VOBU end sector 0
Cell_4: start sector of last VOBU ##
Cell_4: last sector of this cell ##
Note 1: I noticed that your last pre command jumped to your Program #4 as this would've been your Aspect Ratio menu clip. Usually, it's Program 5, from I've done in the past but you're giving the original command so it's cool.
____________________________________________
4. Save IFO/BUP and test to play.
____________________________________________
Note 2: Check to see if menu pops up when choosing chapter selection initially instead of Play Movie. If your menu still pops up, there's probably another separate program/cell you need to deal with.

If you have any questions on what are cell commands, read here.

The problem with what you are doing is that there is no way to jump from the pre commands to the post commands, even though it says Link TailPGC. It doesn't work as I've tried it many of times. But it works from Post to Pre using LinkTopPGC.

____________________________________________
1. Create a new Cell Command in your VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / PGC-Menu_5 / PGC Command Table. You should have a new Cell Command #3. Right click in table and select.
____________________________________________
MY PGC-Menu_5 is a single cell subtitle menu VOB-ID_2, so in this case you really mean VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / PGC-Menu_4 / PGC Command Table which is my multi cell main and aspect ratio menus.

I understand that it is common for multi cell PGC-Menu_5 to be the aspect ratio menu as it was in Daddy Daycare and Medallion.. but not in this one I am working on...

Just want to make sure I understand...

Thanks a ton...

Regards... Jeff

OK, I went and changed it but did the guide work out for you?

Unfortunately no... When I changed the settings in the CELL PLAYBACK SECTION and saved them, the PGC Program Map went nuts... Instead of lining up Program 1 through 6 to Entry Cell number 1 through 6... I got a series of Entry cell numbers like 115, 1, 0, 0, 0, 1... The result in IFOEDIT was that the Main Menu just looped everytime I hit the play button.

That's what I got when I was doing Freaky Friday. IfoEdit can be stubborn when inserting new bytes and correcting following byte sectors but it doesn't sometimes. That's why we got garbled values. I think what I did was save the IFO each time I edited. Closed and reopened IfoEdit to see if it is the same since I save and perform next step and save again. You may have to do a mockstrip of your VOBids in Menu Extras to correct the sectors. Eventually, you'll get the values in for good. Just remember to compare the other fields that we you haven't change to your original IFO. Just in case, check the IFO prior to burning.

With Freaky Friday I just made a Movie Only version so I didn't even go through this. On "I Capture the Castle" I did change back the Entry Cell IDs to 1 through 6 and then the Play Button made the main menu come up for a few seconds with NO button active just playing the back ground video but eventually recycled to active button status.

I will play with it some more later but for now I am guessing this is going to become a MOVIE ONLY version... I'd like to sort it out for future movies but I after too much time spent It isn't worth it. Eventually it becomes cheaper to just BUY a back-up copy and live with FBI Warnings and Previews.

Wait up! I'm writing a guide for your movie while I'm typing this post and hopefully, it'll be one of my most treasured guides.

I have been at this on and off all night...

I am trying to get to the point with IFO files that when they open up in IfoEDIT I see the menus... Kinda like Neo in Matrix... when I look at the code I see menus...

I am failing... Ha Ha...

Your guides are wonderful... but they are also a crutch... without your guides I would not have learned nearly as much... but with your guides sometimes I get the fix with little understanding of whats being done...

Hence the reason I have been trying so hard on this one... I have gotten a much better understanding of Cell, Pre & Post Commands today... But I am a long when off my goal of becoming Neo

Actually, instead of NEO I would like to be called IFO !

Re: I would like to be called IFO

I decided to convert your "The Medallion" cheat sheet to a generic one here. We all need to start somewhere so I hope to have raise your level of IfoEdit knowledge. You may still be the One, Neo.

If you have any grey areas on a guide, let me know. My goal to ensure that the guides can be read and understood at any level. Well, at least most of them since there are technical stuff that is hard to simplify.

Great job on the guide... Should be a huge help to anyone willing to take the time to learn...

I have success with "I Capture the Castle" finally.

Two elements needed where:

1) - I needed to pay careful attention to HOW I ADDED THE EXTRA CELL COMMAND. It is imperative that it was added by right clicking on the first Precommand and clicking AddCellCommand! Changing the number of Cell Commands at the top was causing the mess in Entry Cell numbers.

2) - Copying all three sector points (Entry, Start & Last) from a blank Cell was the only way I could make it work. I tried menu edit to replace the Cell several times with NO success. Changing the Entry Point Sector to the same number as Last Sector was also NOT good.

With your help and some fairly time consuming effort I not only have this one behind me but I also learned a lot for future movies. It should go MUCH quicker next time.

Thanks a ton... Jeff (IFO)

PS - Do you ever accept donations toward all your effort on the guides you publish? For all you add to the community I think a lot of us would like to be able to show our appreciation.

Cool! Did you get The Medallion to work too?

Yeah, this was my problem area and lots of testing and of course, a couple of coasters were involved. My standalone doesn't accept DVDRW.

I'm glad you understood the guide. See, it's not that bad when you understand the logic. Most of the guide is about finding values.

Thanks a ton... Jeff (IFO)

I've never thought it but ATM, I don't need it. I love what I'm doing.
