qaac offer dynamic range compression with soft knee.
--drc thresh:ratio:knee:attack:release

The first question is:
For thresh=-15dB and knee=4dB, the knee:
start at -15db and end at -11db
or
start at -17dB and end at -13dB?

According to the "Digital Dynamic Range Compressor Design — A Tutorial and Analysis":
A softer transition where the ratio gradually grows from 1:1 to a set value in a transition region
on both sides of the threshold is called a Soft Knee.

The second question is:
The (qaac) DRC is RMS or peak based?
