according to direct tv, they told me hopefully around Xmas this year they will release tivo3 which will support hdtv from satelite. I hope they are correct cause mods for this to be able to send to a computer will be right behind that. Of course i guess u could just take out the hard drive when its full and d/l to ur computer.

Well, formats don't record anything, but I would guess it'll be an encrypted 5C stream. The average Joe won't be able to decrypt it. Scavenging the hard drive will avail nothing, I'm sure.

I hope the guy(s) who've figured out 5C wait until the big companies are irreversibly committed to it, then drop the hammer by letting out an algorithm that decodes it.

Some poor programmer schmuck with a terminal illness and no assets can hold a news conference after he posts it on a dozen geek sites.
