h.264 quality for 1080p?

Any guides/recommendations on what to look for with CRF settings for h.264? Or what to look for with quality loss? Macroblocking?

I'm using RipBot, on many videos I'm having a hard time spotting a difference between CRF20 and CRF22. I can often tell the difference with the original Blu-Ray. It usually looks sharper. I've tried CRF18 only a few times, the filesize wasn't too far off of the original. I'm not trying to target a size, I use a media server. My goal is to retain the quality while not going too overboard on file sizes.

I know it depends on the type of content (dark scenes, how much fast movements, etc), and can't get precise answers. But you guys are the gurus and I'm still a newbie. Thanks!
