CQ-ASP_Q2_equiv: Almost the equivalent of MPEG-4 ASP Q2 encoding.
CQ-ASP_Q2_eq(crf): Same as above but with "constant quality" (constant rate factor).

Can you tell me more about what those mean?

I'm wondering about other methods besides automated 2 pass that could give better quality.

they're the equivalent of xvid's constant quant 2.

Of course, with the advent of adaptive quantization, using the non-constant-rate-factor one is stupid (IMO all --qp profiles should be removed, qp is only useful for testing purposes.)

Have those profiles been updated yet? 'Cause the title of the first post in this thread still indicates that: "MeGUI Custom x264/AVC video profiles. (Updated: 2008-03-06)"!

Thank you....

I literally had _just_ finished encoding a bunch of files with the CQ-ASP_Q2_equiv profile when Dark Shikari posted. Is it worth it to reencode with the new profile you're going to make? (Gegen die Wand PAL DVD9 as source(encoded main movie plus extras))

no. the update consists in the removal of one preset.

Is there any particular reason why deblocking strength of -2 is the default in the profiles?
It doesn't seem to make the image sharper and seems to make block edges visible.
If keeping more detail is the reason then wouldn't reducing the threshold, like --filter -1,-2 or even --filter 0,-2, be better?

BTW, the thread title still says (Updated: 2007-09-01)

once -2,-1 was good... but now i think in the update ill reset the values to 0,0 for all profiles.
this thread is pretty old and the title cant be changed. if you look at the first post title it is correct.

just posting back to say i re-encoded with the crf profile anyways, and it saved a bunch of space (!) with no degradation in quality that i can notice.

Will there be an update to the Apple TV profile since it now accepts more audio formats other than just stereo and pro logic ?

If not what format do I use to convert AC3 to AAC multichannel for apple tv support?

and are there any other options I need to add or change

THanks

in this thread you will find video profiles, or presets. audio is a different thing.

@all: the profiles update will come at a later time, for health reasons.

'hq - slow crf'

I use StaxRip for encoding to x264... it shows a profile named : 'HQ - SLOW CRF'
Can you give me specs of this profile, how much time it takes in comparison to 'HQ SLOW'???, and what makes it different from 'HQ SLOW' ???

Thanks

It uses CRF 22 instead of 2pass, infos about CRF Mode can be found here.

Is there a reference somewhere that has all these profiles, but shows the settings in commandline format for x264 (and in my particular case x264.exe) ?

If not, I'd say there's a huge demand and audience for it, since so much work went into these profiles already. In fact, I was kind of surprised to NOT find a simple plaintext file CLI formatted version of the profile collection in this thread..

Is there someone out there that already did this and converted them all? If so, I'd be very happy and oh so thankful! I'd donate money for it, I think.. ;-)

not yet, im making one. i will also ask to close or even delete this thread as soon as i publish the new presets since they're completely different (hardware and devices oriented based on profile@level) from the actual ones and will open a new one shortly after with a lot of new info.
