Rumbling noice from old vhs ”hi fi” tapes

Hi. This is my first post. I’ve been here for a while, reading and learning.
Thank you all kindly

I have lots of VHS PAL material captured in the 80’s and early 90’s. It was captured whith a Panasonic recorder witch had FM modulated “hi Fi” sound track. Nowadays, when trying to digitize the material, the soundtracks sometimes have this rumbling noise like you are out of frequency on our radio.
I know this has to be related to age. Dropouts occoure on the pictures as well.
I’ve read some artikles about heat treatment of old tapes. I assume you souldn’t try that at home - or? Is there anything a private person can do to raise the quality og old tapes whithout buying a lab?
You can do lots of things in postprocessing, but better input gives better output.

They bake audio cassette tapes in an oven to get one final good
playback out of them before the ______ flakes off. Perhaps that
is possible with VHS. You might ask about the general procedure
over at taperssection.

Thanks nibbles

I found this:

You can actually bake at home. I'll give it a try..
