Low framerate & pixelated picture when playing back video

When playing back video either, both avi- and mpeg files, the video is played back with a very low framerate. When video is played back video full screen it looks like it was resized from its original resolution without any smoothing. The picture consists of large pixels and is very unsmooth.

This happens both in Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player.

This info is from MPC:

Frames played:295
Frames dropped in Renderer:566
Average frame rate achieved:8.54
Jitter (std dev frame time) (mSec):44
Average sync offset (mSec): 2
Std dev sync offset (mSec): 10

Thanks in advance,

Have you checked the overlay settings in MPC? What video card do you have? using the latest drivers?

try to see task manager, if MPC is using around 99% of CPU, means its time to upgrade.
