Try reading the
The Analog Capture Guide first. Try and digest that. Not trying to be "mean," but you do need to get some idea of what software tools are available, how to setup the tools, and how to use them. The guide will help you with that. Then you need to get familiar with the tools. If you have a specific problem that you cannot solve, then you may need to make available for download a short section of the video. Best. |

Your capture device is "outboard" and connected via USB. These typically produce MPEG-2 video in the device, and proprietary software to copy to hard drive.
If you would like to use a Vdub-based tool for postprocessing, VirtualDubMod can support MPEG-2 sources, and while I haven't used Cuttermaran, I understand it is popular among members who edit MPEG-2. If you would prefer to use AviSynth, that is doable through DGIndex and its related AviSynth plugin can be used to manipulate MPEG-2 streams as if they were uncompressed vidio within AviSynth scripts.

I have nothing but ATI - AIW pci and agp types cards and, they will capture virtualy any format Mpeg2, AVI, even do analog to DV direct capture with Virtualdub(xxx), VirtualVCR, etc. You just need the correct codecs and drivers. I don't know about the ATI USB types but don't believe everything you read and hear.
