Vista Games on WindowsXP.......NOT
I'm trying to play Windows Vista games on my machine that has WindowsXP but I keep getting a critical error message that says "Unable to find a DirectX 3D Device to render to". I did some research which brought me to upgrade my DirectX and my monitors drivers. Nothing is helping. Is it not possible to play these games on XP?
DXdiag gives me a message that says this: Hardware accelerated Direct3D 9+ is not available because the display driver does not support it. You may be able to get a newer driver from the hardware manufacturer. Could this be the problem? Last edited by skippee; 6th January 2007 at 23:25. Reason: updating |

Hi!
Although the lack of an appropriate driver MAY prove to be the problem, I'd speculate that the reason a game is identified specifcally, as a "Windows Vista" game is because it's not downwardly compatible with prior operating systems... |

I am hardly moaning. LOL I'm just trying to find a way to play Vista games on my XP machine. I do have Vista and I have installed it once. Too many incompatibles, i.e., no sound, no printer or scanner. Too many upgrades to worry about but while I had it on there I did enjoy the graphics of Vista games. So.........no moaning. I'll get it when I get it and if anyone could help that will be a plus.

For all of you nay sayers and doubting Thomas', I finally found a way to play Vista Games (Solitaire, Spider, Hearts, Shanghai, Minesweeper) on XP. Found it with this OS.

Or it could be that all the Vista games are actually DirectX 10.... and DirectX 10 will not run on XP!

I suspect it wouldn't be a hard task to make it run on XP.
But not letting it run is a surefire way to make XP disappear more quickly ...
