vobs not decrypted?
this isnt the first time this has happened...dvd decryptor finishes 100% decrypting a dvd but when i try to do anything with the files, i get an error saying that the files are still encrypted. I can watch the files fine on the computer, but i cant use them in any program...it will crash or give me an error. is there a way to try to decrypt them from the hard drive or should i try to rip them again? Why does this happen?
thanks |

Assuming you're using 3.1.9.0, the 'im encrypted' flag is always removed from the vobs - be it if the files are encrypted or not.
This should help solve problems like this whereby the files arent actually encrypted but the flag IS set to say they are. I can only guess the program you're feeding them into is a little sensitive and may be checking for the flag in areas its not supposed to be checking in. If you can play the files ok, they must be decrypted - right?! What software are you feeding them in to?

didnt think i'd get a response from head honcho. heh.
i was actually using 3.1.7.0. as far as the programs, dvd2one blue screens when it gets to the 3rd movie vob, recode2 gives an error saying they are still encrypted and i have yet to try dvdshrink. Is there any way to use dvd decryptor and get it to recognize vobs on the hard drive? thanks EDIT: Dvd shrink has encountered an error and cannot continue. The error is: cannot decrypt VOBS the reason is: Unknown. I know i should try reripping it with new dvd decryptor but isnt there a way to decode files already on the hard drive? I guess i could try to make a virtual drive, but there has to be an easier way? maybe in the next version of dvd decryptor? Maybe not, since the files are definitely decrypted, but the flag is prolly just screwy like you said. the movie is r1 old school btw. thanks Last edited by marcman; 10th January 2004 at 02:12. |

Its good that dvd2one is kinda processing them ok. Make sure you're using an up-to-date version of that because I know people had problems with vobs that the program thought were encrypted but werent.
Going by the changelog, DVDShrink 3.1. now also fixes the 'cant decrypt vobs' error. As Recode is based on DVDShrink, I expect its the same problem?

ya, im pretty sure i have the newest dvd2one. i'll have to checkout the new dvdshrink and let you know if it works
thanks for the help so, here's the error i got with the newest dvdshrink, which is the same error i got with recode2: dvd shrink encountered an error and cannot continue invalid dvd navigation structure overlapped I/O operation in progress whats the deal with that? still think it's the 'i'm encrypted' key? No, but thats a better error than the 'cannot decrypt vobs' one.
and you dont get any errors / warnings when DVD Decrypter is decrypting? Better ask what that error means in the DVDShrink forum.
