Any way to deinterlace incorrectly uprezzed interlaced footage?
I'm dealing with some 1080i material that has certain archive footage clips badly upconverted from SD. The result is what you get by just taking interlaced video and blowing it up assuming it's frame-based, all field relationships are broken and you get nasty sawtooth artifacts (not the regular combing).. My goal is to remove it and I've tried all kinds of combinations of resizers (nearest neighbor/pointresize as well hoping that it would just discard every other pixel/line and restore the bad upconversion), as well as multiple SeparateFields(), etc. No luck.

It's actually only ~5 seconds of footage. Any shorter and I'm afraid it wouldn't be enough to experiment with...

Thank you for the reply, Donald! Shouldn't it be theoretically possible when knowing the source res (720x480) and destination res (1920x1080) to predict how the upscaler interpolated the missing pixels to achieve the resize? And knowing that, somehow reverse it?

The resizing has blended information from two fields. There is no way to unblend it.
Consider: We start with A and B. I give you only C where C=(A+B)/2. How can you recreate A and B? Where did this material come from? Last edited by Guest; 20th December 2008 at 01:45. |
