convert mp4 to avi

I have a mp4 file that uses h264 and I want to convert it to xvid avi. How do I do that? A program with a GUI would be nice to recommend me

Not much hard about it. Really, give it a try. Install a recent version of AviSynth, and make a script like this
Code:
DirectShowSource("c:\foo.mp4", audio=true)
open it up in VirtualDub, and encode the normal way into XviD.

I had to do this for some friends home movies stuff that had been encoded with H.264 because he was told that it would be best for watching on his DVD player

I found Mediacoder the best GUI/front end for doing it all with.
