One Disk Divx ?

Hello all,
my system is an Athlon 1,4 256 MB DDR, ATI Radeon 64 MB DDR HD 60 GB, Hauppauge TV Card
I have experience with ripping DVD to Divx and because of this I think there has to be a program to capture TV the way you rip a DVD, this means that you can tell the program that it has to be a 700 MB avi (after you cut the commercials). With the same quality that a rip has. I tried virtualdub with one pass divx but I think it could be better. Or can someone tell me how to make an avi of perfect quality (filesize is not so important) and after that do a 2pass encoding using divx 4 so that the result matches the quality of DVD rip with the size of around 700 MB ?
Thanks

you can capture with huffyuv codec (lossless) and then recompress with divx 4 2-pass mode. but it is very very hard to reach the quality of a dvd-rip.

Thanks,
it works fine in a short testrun. But when the file reached the size of 3,98 Gigabyte virtualdub crashed. I have heard of errors occuring when working with larger files, but what to do now ?

fat32 has a filesize limitation of 4gb. unless you switch to ntfs (win nt,2000,xp only) you have to use multisegment capture.
set up a capture drive and check "enable multisegment capture". then you get a new file every 2gb. vdub can work with these files as if it was only one file.

I capture to DivX all the time and have captured 2hr movies and have quality as good as a SVCD and have it under 700mb for a 2hr movie.
That link should get you started.

My best capture to date is the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, its 618mb
