The good news form the MPEG meeting, which is about to end in half an hour or so, is that the text of new AVC | H.264 video codec standard is now approved. The same applies to the spectacular "High Efficiency AAC" profile.

Good !! This means we probably dont have to define a new subblock group to be able to support NALU's in matroska, and can use 5 of the 6 spare bits in block header to mark NALU priority ... we were worried they might add more of them before freezing the specs, because then we were borked with our current approach ...

looks to me like the first steps of an h264 implementation,..
So if you don't want to read some sourcecode it won't be much help

as far as I looked on it, it doesn't look like there's much to test,.. it's just the very beginning

I hope it will develop fast. In my opinion it has the best potential to be the next "best video codec".

new entries in cvs

The cvs page is being updated regularly lately.
The good thing is the source is compiled without errors, and I can encode some test clips.I can't open these clips with any media player, but they can be opened in Virtualdub, so I can have an idea of the results. It is still extremely slow, but it seems progress is being made.
Many thanks to the developers!
