Can you make VCD Formats to DVDRs ?

Is there a solid proof way to make VCD formats with a DVDR and what software and resolution works best ? Ideas ? I know VCD or SVCD formats of 352 x 240 but what other resolution works best ? Thanks

I think it would really depend mostly on what your dvd player accepts nicely...I burned a bunch of mixed mpg's onto a cd-rw to test mine out, and it played the standard vcd and svcd (480x480)resolutions fine, AND it played one at 720x480...all on the same cd. I usually use nero, but I would NOT say nero is definately standardized...if you try nero, be sure to use the newest version, otherwise the fast-forward and rewind won't work. I only use it because its super quick and to throw together as long as you already have the mpg's within specs.
