No. I'm starting with the big (lots of people affected) errors first and then working my way back down.
That's ok I was just wondering.

I like QuEnc and think it is a good alternative to CCE in 2 pass mode.

First chapter audio problem

1. DVD-RB v0.30 and 0.29
2. ReJig 0.5e
3. Using eclCCE? N
4. Audio becomes out of sync near the end of the 1st chapter. At the start of the 2nd chapter it is corrected. I have done three movie and get the same thing. I'm not sure if it was there in 0.28 or not.

You're the second post mentioning the sync issue. I'll look at that closely tonight.

Outstanding work, jdobbs, thanks for all the hard work you are putting into this great tool.

1. DVD-R Version: 0.30
2. Encoder being used: CCE 2.50
3. Using eclCCE? Y
4. Bug encountered:

Chapter stutter--depends on which player I play the burned project in. It plays flawlessly on the DVD drive in my computer, but stutters at chapter breaks in my cheapo Norcent DVD player (though the Norcent has no trouble with other 1:1 or DVDShrink titles.) Also, of course, the original DVD does not stutter at chapters in the Norcent. Exact same thing happens in v0.29: plays fine on my computer, stutters at chapter breaks in my Norcent. All my testing has been with the same DVD title (The Last Starfighter.)

I had problems not encoding but playing back stills as well, but since they were all in one separate VTS, I just copied the VOB/IFO over instead of using the ones Rebuilder made and they work fine.

Ok, some details. The DVD is Man on the Moon PAL R2, runtime error 9 subscript out of range when processing VobId 07, CellId 01 in VTS2 during Prepare step. Here's the VTS:

The 10-framer cells are still frames (1 still frame per cell). The last two AVS files it creates successfully are for VobId 05/CellId 01 and VobId 06/CellId 01 where the latter doesn't look right:
Code:
#------------------
# AVS File Created by DVD Rebuilder
# VOBID:05, CELLID:01
#------------------
mpeg2source("E:\DVD2DVD-R\PROJECTS\MAN ON THE MOON\REBUILDER\D2VAVS\V02A.D2V")
trim(5837,5837)
ConvertToYUY2()

#------------------
# AVS File Created by DVD Rebuilder
# VOBID:06, CELLID:01
#------------------
mpeg2source("E:\DVD2DVD-R\PROJECTS\MAN ON THE MOON\REBUILDER\D2VAVS\V02A.D2V")
trim(5838,5837)
ConvertToYUY2()
Note the frame number I marked in bold, I think this should be 5838 too. The last few lines of the D2V file it created:
Code:
7 0 12866 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2
7 0 128DF 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2
7 0 1294F 2 2 2 2 2 2 2
7 0 12999 2

Run time 5 with QuEnc during rebuild

DVD-RB: Ver .30
Quenc .45
error : run time 5 during rebuild
Options:
one click
Convert to YuY2()
dyn bit rates
Audio Dub
no warnings

appears to be a still frame near the end of the disk
vob:3 cell:1
trim 229329,229329
Convrt to Yu()

This same source runs through with ReJig ok.
Really looks good. This is a very exciting program.

@RB

Excellent feedback. Thanks. No way I purposefully intended to create that trim() statement. That should point me in the right direction.

What does that trim bit do?

I have seen that as well. I find this AviSynth scripting stuff fascinating.

I'll answer for jdobbs

The Trim() statement is used in all DVD-RB AVS files. Without that line, the AVS would refer to the entire VTS. But DVD-RB reencodes at the cell level, so Trim() is used to cut a cell out of the large video stream. In my case however, the Trim() statement seems to be set up incorrectly.

When you say it stutters... does it do it for several frames, one frame... is it very noticable or do you have to look for it?

The stutter is a single pause of about 0.2 seconds or so at each chapter break, so I'm guessing it is several frames but not sure. It definately is noticable when viewing the movie, I don't have to look for it. And it ONLY seems to happen on my Norcent DVD player; it plays fine on my computer's DVD drive. It can't be the media, because other 1:1 backups work fine.

Incidentally, I haven't noticed any of the audio sync problems others are having in the long chapters that I've checked so far.

Other than the chapter pauses, everything is perfect.

jdobbs prolly has ideas for that pause thing but heres something to look at:

-The player jumping/freezing for the audio to come back and thus pausing the video till it does. (the audio gap problem reversed sort of)
-Too high bitrate causes pause
-Too low bitrate causes pause

btw what is the lowest bitrate allowed for a DVD?

I had the same thing with Matrix Revolutions PAL using 030. It only did it once while going from one chapter to another. It was chapter 3 to 4. This is where Sereph, Morpheus and Trinity open the door to the train and walk through. It stutters while the door begins to open and freezes for a fraction of a second and then plays normal to the end of the film.

It only did it on my cheap player but my decent player and computer played it fine. My Sony has played discs from every version of DVD-RB perfectly.

I am doing it again with 031 now.

It pauses for a fraction of a second in my cheap DVD player on every single chapter of the title I converted with DVDRB 0.30. Other compressed titles done by release groups which I've tried on the same media in the same player have no such pauses... so it must be some minor little thing at chapter points that is causing some players hickups. Frustrating to debug though because it only seems to show up after you burn and test it in the player.

One other minor bug, which may have already been fixed by now, is in the settings dialog for CCE 2.50. I selected 6 pass VBR (and it's still there now as a default), but when I looked in the Rebuilder.ecl it has VBR_Pass=5 on every cell. No biggy, 5-pass is fine anyway, but just thought I'd point that out.

The number 5 is correct. It will actually do one pass more than the number in the ecl file.

4a. Stargate SG1, Vol 33, PAL
On a JVC and a Sony standalones: everything OK. No stutter whatsoever on chapter points. All chapters involve dissolve and background music continuing to next chapter. Not a single glitch. Yes!!
On a Philips standalone: Picture freezes on start of each episode - chapter. Arghhh!
Same thing that happens on the &^$&^$$#@@ Philips since day 1.

4b. Babylon 5, Season 3, disc 1, PAL.
Run-time error '9'
Subscript out of range
7.7% into rebuilding.
I tried rebuilding with 0.31, same thing.
Retrying from the start with 0.31 now.
Will report back in a ...uhm, a few hours.

you're getting there
I Re-did Babylon 5, Season 3, disc 1, PAL, with DVD-R 0.31 and same settings as before:
No chapter stutter
AND....
IT PLAYS PERFECTLY OK ON MY PHILIPS ALSO!!!!!!!

(This was a bug that only yours truly had reported a long time ago, was present in every otherwise perfect backup, and prevented me from actually keeping a backup.
From past experience, I am almost 99,999% sure that since it plays on the Philips, it can play anywhere.
Or at least, the structure is solid!
So you got rid of two bugs with one shot!!!!
Bravo!!
(Just to be absolutely sure, I'll re-do the Stargate DVD with 0.31, to confirm)

Awesome, loosenut.

I'm redoing my project right now, with 0.31 instead of 0.30. I'll have an update on my chapter pause problem in about 4 hours (I didn't keep my project files.)

I think this is only happening on ReJig... I just did a same DVD in ReJig and CCE -- I noticed audio drift on the ReJig version but not on CCE... gotta be related to some difference in the way I process them.
