data dvds?

i'm still kinda new to burning dvds, so i tried finding info about burning data dvds, kinda like data cds, where u burn the files directly onto the dvd without any format change, i'm aware that u wouldnt be able to play this onto standalone players, but i want to use it as data transfering and backups, i burned one trial, but none of my dvdroms, except for the original dvdburner can read the burned dvd....
i'm running a optorite dd0203 burner on nero with some dvds, they are blank white on top, DVD-R...sry they dont have a brand name on them

is there somehting i dont know or something i'm doing wrong?

Yes, there is something you do wrong: Unbranded DVD-R can be of very poor quality, and could degrade and become unreadable within a few months

dvds are about 3 months old maximum....and the original dvd burner can still read the dvdr, but my laptops dvdrom doesnt read it....so i dont think its the dvdr

If the laptop dvd-rom does not read it, while the burner does, then it *definitely* is the low quality of the dvd-r which you have to blame.

This is a very common issue with low quality discs.
