What is NuMenu4u

NuMenu4U is a program designed to re-encode all of the menus on your DVD to reduce the file size, allowing for greater bitrates to be used on the main movie/extras. Any extras that are stored in the *_0.VOB files (becoming more popular) can also be re-encoded. All the re-encoding is carried out by DoCCE4U, and upon completeion, NuMenu4U integrates with DIF4U for movie/extra stripping. There is also the facility to move all of your new authored vobs (from Scenarist) into your VIDEO_TS folder. IfoUpdate will then be executed on all of the necessary IFO's. Get VTS Sectors etc will be automatically corrected.

This is the very first beta release so I need as much feed back as possible. An updated version will be on the website in the next couple of days to fix a few anomolies.

The update release should have an improved IfoUpdate UI, and hopefully a fix for Non-English OS (although I can't test this!).

Get it at: http://numenu4u.users.btopenworld.com

Hm, fixed the vobedit bug in new version?
Will test it as soon as possbible. (in 8 hours )

Or is this an old version number with new bugfix?
*confused*

BTW: how does Numenu4U work?

I thougt, menu encoding doesn´t work, cause buttons "confusing"
Can you explain it al little bit?

I want to know what I do (or the tool for me ) to give you better reports, ideas and to understand the stuff

I'm dealing mostly with PAL DVDs and use german Win2K on my machine.

So, I got it to encode, but I had to reset first the paths of decomb.dll and mpeg2dec3.dll to the ones from DIF4U. With the dll's from NuMenu4U it didn't work for me.

I always got in CCE an error like "Framesize 808x56 is not supported".

After changing the dll-paths to the ones from DIF4U it worked fine.

It also worked with CCE 2.66, cause NuMenu4U took control over DoCCE4u and DoCCE4u itself controls every CCE Version thanks to the integration of ECLCCE 1.5b

But after encoding it stops in VobEdit in the File-Open Dialogue

Maybe it's the same issue like in former DoCCE4U Versions, as ECLCCE wasn't implemented yet and you had to set the "Title" of the File-Open Dialogue. In my case it would be "Öffnen" 'cause it's german Win2K.

I'm sure BBWoof can tell you something about this language issue

Greetz & happy testing

new version now available:

couple of minor bug fixes.
Path to CCE is now no longer required
Support for Non-English Windows OS (maybe?)
Improved UI for IfoUpdate

To use the support for non-english please goto the appropriate sub-menu and type into the boxes, the exact wording that is seen in your OS, as follows:

Goto any app that requires you to OPEN a file (eg NOTEPAD). This will bring up the Open Dialog Box. Type into NUMenu4U the exact window name that appears (eg in german Open=Öffnen). Do the same for whatever is written on the Open Button.
The exact same procedure needs to be done for a SAVE AS Dialog Box.
Then press OK. This will automatically save the new wording. To reset, just delete the text in the boxes.

For those of you who require more information on what NUMenu4U does, I will try and explain.

The structure of the menu remains intact, so all of the buttons will work properly, and point to the correct places. There is no facility to disable buttons (I don't care for butchering DVDs so this is unlikely to be implemented). The video stream is removed from the vobs, re-encoded (thanks to DOCCE4U), and then remuxed back into the vobs. This produces a vastly smaller file size. If wanted (Default setting), when NUMenu4U has finished, DIF4U will open for movie/extras processing. To avoid any confusion the VIDEO_TS folder created by NUMenu4U will also be used by DIF4U, for unused VTSs.

When the drive mounting your DVD image is selected, the menu language streams present in the menus will be shown. This is nearly always English and occasionally, French, German, or Spanish.

Choose your preferred language or keep them all. NB there is a problem with this that manifests itself from time to time, due to a bug in IfoEdit. Very occasionally IfoEdit does not auto select all of the vob id's correctly when removing menu languages. (So far I know of R1 JP3 that this happens to). If this indeed does occur, I suggest leaving the language setting as all, run the NUMenu4U. Load up DIF4U, but before launching ReAuthorist, manually strip out the unwanted language stream in IfoEdit, remembering to select the vob id's yourself.

All of the settings can be left at Default, or change tham as necessary. If you prefer to use different AVS scripts just add or overtype where necessary, and save. This will save them for future use. To reset just press reset (suprisingly).

If you change the default settings, don't forget to check save settings.

Until DOCCE4U 1.0.1.5 is released setting the Q Factor for one-pass encoding will do nothing.

If you experience a problem with DOCCE4U 1.0.1.4 and CCE v2.5 when re-encoding (some files won't be encoded), and NUMenu4U might crash, then I suggest changing the ecl.dll and ecl.exe to a previous version (2.67.0.9) appears to work fine.

Hope this gets you started!

I also find that strange but it's not working for me with "your" dll's for some reason

Pointing to the dif4u dll's works fine

However it's working one or the other way

Are you planning to expand the setting for "Language required" to more languages?

That would be really great. I'm dealing with some episodic DVDs at the moment that have way too much menu languages I'll never need....

Nope, I don't wanna keep more than one language. In most cases I keep german or english menu.

I'm dealing right now with Sex & the City Season DVDs and they all have at least 4 Menu Languages (german, english, french, italian) some have even more like spanish, dutch and so on.

That's maybe because some of the DVDs here are produced once for the whole european market to save costs and have only different covers in the specific countries I think.

got your ifo, but it only has english language menu listed (LU_1)
numenu4u will look for LU_2, LU_3 etc inidicating another menu in a different language

here's a question...

NuMenu only copies IFO and _0.VOB files over then recommends shutting off "create VIDEO_TS" folder in DIF4U

DIF4U says "make sure VIDEO_TS folder exists" so...... when/where does the rest of the non-ripped files get copied over?? - copy them before launching DIF4u?

IE: DVD I'm working on... 5 VTS's.. only ones getting re-encoded is 1,2,4 so.. what about 3,5?

oh and FYI:

the modified IFOEdit that comes w/ newer DIF4U causes NuMenu to lock up... needs a pure .95 to work

good point, that explains why it also didn't work for me 'til I set the paths to the dll's from dif4u

Strange.....I was sure that this one was from a menu that had at least 4 languages.....I'll look into that again and will see if I find something else for you
