looking for PAL DVDs with wrong field order

To test a couple of (beta) softwares I'm looking for PAL DVD titles that contain video items (most likely the main movie) which looks interlaced in dvd2avi preview, but after switching the field order (in the field operation menu) the video is actually progressive. Please provide movie title, distributor, Country you bought the movie in and if possible a link to an online store that would sell the movie in question.
Thanks in advance

so you're saying they're changing the field order in the middle of the movie? does it happen at a specific position (chapter, layer break, etc). Thanks for the indications, I'm pretty sure I can get that title easily.

The only PAL interlaced I've seen is Cruel Intentions 2. Got it in Belgium.
Unfortunately don't have the DVD any more, no idea about field order or any other details

@doom9

Be careful. There is a big difference between swapped fields, a one-field phase shift, and reversed field dominance. Your testing needs to cover all of them.

The Swedish "Life of Brian" is one of the worst DVDs I've ever seen. I have no idea what they used as a master but it looks terrible. Interlacing, duplicate frames and if I remember correctly even some places where a previous frame was displayed so that the movie played backwards for a second.

Needless to say I gave up on ripping that one.

The one that I checked is a dutch release (pretty bad quality btw):
Life of Brian, PAL; single layer, single sided disk with yellow print; english soundtrack, dutch subs (permanent on the picture, not a separate stream); no DVD extras or documentaries
distributor: H.O.M. Vision, Spakenburg; 2001; Art.no. 603

no idea where to buy it.

Well I don't know if you could be interesting about this because it's not exactly what you are asking for but:

- Conan the barbarian -1982-(Collector edition) bought in France, Zone 2, PAL and easily available through amazon.fr.

The fields order change continuously during all the movie. Some sequences are not interlaced while the next one is interlaced!?! In others words you can have a fast movement on the screen and that scene is not interlaced and on another sequence that reproduce same fast movements everything is interlaced. The first time I see that.

Within DVD2AVI "Swap field order" or "none" doesn't change anything.

And when you play the whole movie with PowerDVD XP 4, you can say when interlaced scenes are because it's a bit blurry.

I also think I made a mistake: I encoded the whole movie without deinterlace filter, I was afraid scenes not interlaced could be worst after such a filter would be applied on them.

Will you recommend to deinterlace it? Non interlaced scenes will not be worst?

- High Noon -1952- (Gary Cooper) bought in France, Zone 2, PAL.

Here the whole movie is interlaced and whether you select within DVD2AVI "Swap field order" or "none" it doesn't change anything. You have to apply a filter to deinterlace it. The first zone 2 PAL DVD I encode like that. Most of the time I left DVD2AVI on "none".

I hope not to be out of subject.

Well, I giess the Merlin PAL dvd was also this kind of DVD. I searched it a lot in dvd2avi and didn't notice any interlacing..well after I took another search later there were these strange field shifting issues. I only noticed these scenes after I made encoding tests with different resize-filters at the same scene. An when I looked at the results, I noticed that these field shiftings could only be seen with Bicublinresize and the same scenes with bilinear-resize were much better. Almost like there wasn't nothing wrong with the picture.

If the movie is truelly interlaced, shouldn't these black-lines were all over the movie??

Hi,

the challange: 2010: The year we make contact (1984) - R2 PAL

Is interlaced with changing (!) FO. Means the field order changes randomly from chapter to chapter (cell to cell).
Process: Split by CellID, encode new, author, check which chapters/cell are wrong, change FO, author again. Be aware of the fact that DVD2AVI will give you another challange since it does not framecount correctly the cells, means you need to manually correct the frame count of the DVD2AVI projects otherwise you'l loose a few frames in between.

I have done this.

PAL field order

I've seen Casino, bought in Czech Republic, seemed like interlaced.
If you know, how to "de-interlace" (change the field order),so it looks like progressive, then write a GUIDE!!!

I got the information from the German board, that Independence Day also seems to be in a wrong or changing fiel order. Thanks "scharfis_brain", he wanted to write this here, but he couldnt because of the "5 days rule" maybe he will add something, when his account is completely active in some days...

Seems like posting things like this on the main page can work miracles (as many posts today as during the whole last week)...
