Spiderman (With Menu/No Transcode) Cheat Sheet

Spiderman (Original Menu/No Transcode) Cheat Sheet (Split into 2 parts)
Courtesy of 2CL

PART 1 of 2

Final Product Description
Movie with menu intact.
Special Features selections disabled
English 5.1 only
English Subtitle only
FBI warnings bypassed
PG-13 declaration bypassed

I think this was my second DVD I tried to do. Back then I just did the movie only. I really thought the menus were so cool to keep. After doing Signs, I revisited Spiderman and applying the same method. This was a little more challenging though as unlike Signs, I had to menu-strip my main movie menus so that the movie could fit on a DVD. I worked on this for 3 days. Let me know if it does justice for you.

Tools I used
For ripping movie to harddrive: Smartripper 2.41
For editing the DVD navigations: IfoEdit 0.95
For viewing VOBs: DVD2AVI 1.76 & VOBrator 0.2 Beta.
For cutting out the end credits: vStrip GUI 0.8f (I got this version a while ago. Might be old but it works)
For burning the final product: ImgTool 0.95 with reallocation of files unchecked.
______________________________________________________
1. Create a folder named “Spiderman” and two sub-folders named “Files” and “English”
______________________________________________________
2. Ripped only VIDEO_TS.*, and VTS_01_* to “Spiderman” folder
______________________________________________________
3. Region free every IFO just in case and save .
______________________________________________________
4. Get VTS Sectors.
______________________________________________________
5. This is a good time to backup your IFOs in your “Spiderman” sub-folder into your “Files” sub-folder. If you need to copy an original IFO over your badly edited one, get VTS Sector afterwards.
______________________________________________________
6. In VIDEO_TS.IFO / First Play PGC / PGC Command Table and edit.

OLD > 1.Pre Command (JumpSS VMGM) Jump to VMG PGC: 1 [30 06 00 01 00 c0 00 00 ]
NEW > 1.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 1, Title(ttn): 1, root-menu [30 06 00 01 01 83 00 00 ]

Translation: Bypass Columbia Tristar logo.
Note: You really won’t go straight to main menu buttons as there is a menu intro clip present. We will adjust/shorten that in step 10.
______________________________________________________
7. In VIDEO_TS.IFO / VMG Overview / Menu Language Unit, delete playbacks on the following.

Menu 1: [entry only] (Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 1)
Menu 2: [entry only] (Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 2)
Menu 3: [entry only] (Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 3)
Menu 4: [entry only] (Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 4)

Translation: Prevent PG-13 declaration, FBI warnings, and Columbia Tristar logo, which we just disabled. These pop up after play is pressed.
______________________________________________________
8. Save VIDEO_TS.IFO
______________________________________________________
9. Get VTS Sectors
______________________________________________________
10. In VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / PGC-MENU_5

a) In Prohibited user operations, “NextPG Search” is checked also.

Translation: Prevent DVD from forwarding. You’ll get a black screen that keeps you in limbo.

b) OPTIONAL: If you don’t like the menu intro and want to see your buttons right away then do this edit. I preferred to keep it.

Cell Playback:

OLD > [00000278] Cell_1: entry point sector 0 [00000000]
NEW > [00000278] Cell_1: entry point sector 5329 [000014d1]

Translation: Menu intro bypassed.
______________________________________________________
I added this part to provide you which menus reside in Titleset 1’s VOB-IDs when previewed.

Titleset 1 VOB-Ids Brief Descriptions

Language Menu Unit 1: [English]
Menu 5: (Programs: 11) (Cells: 11) (uses VOB-IDs: 1) main menu intro (deleted playback earlier)/ main menu
Menu 6: (Programs: 10) (Cells: 10) (uses VOB-IDs: 2) subtitles menu
Menu 7: (Programs: 10) (Cells: 10) (uses VOB-IDs: 3) audio menu
Menu 8: (Programs: 28) (Cells: 28) (uses VOB-IDs: 4) scene selection menu
Menu 9: (Programs: 63) (Cells: 63) (uses VOB-IDs: 5) special feature menus
______________________________________________________
11. In VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / PGC-MENU_9 / PGC Command Table:, edit

OLD > 1.Pre Command Set GPreg<8> mov (set-val)<0> [71 00 00 08 00 00 00 00 ]
NEW > 1.Pre Command (LinkPGCN) Link PGC 5 [20 04 00 00 00 00 00 05 ]

Translation: Special Features menus are disabled.

PART 2 of 2

Our movie is way too big so we’re going to CUT the end credits out and strip the French audio and subtitle in our following steps. First, we will cut the end credits.

I take no credit for this DVD2AVI/vStrip method. I decided to provide this method in details, so you can understand and apply it to future projects.
DVD2AVI/vStrip Method on Cutting End Credits
______________________________________________________
12. Open VTS_01_6.vob in your “Spiderman” folder with DVD2AVI.
______________________________________________________
13. Movie, with no sound, will appear in viewing area. Dragging the bottom slide bar and using the < and > buttons for fine tuning, get to a black part that is just before the credits appears. I did it right before you see the web. When you get that spot you want, press the “]” button located at bottom right. This sets the clip’s end.
______________________________________________________
14. Save Project to “Spiderman” folder as filename “no credits”. After save is done, you will have a D2V and AC3 file present.
______________________________________________________
15. Close DVD2AVI.
______________________________________________________
16. Open Notepad. With “File of types” dropdown menu set to “All Files (*.*)”, open “no credits.d2v” in your “Spiderman” folder.
______________________________________________________
17. Find and view this line: Location=0,0,0,A665. The second zero is your start hex value and the fourth zero is your end hex value.

Note: A665 is what I got.
______________________________________________________
18. Open up your Scientific Calculator in Windows and select Hex (hexadecimal) mode.
______________________________________________________
19. Input the value, A665.
______________________________________________________
20. Switch to dec (decimal) mode and the value changes to 42597.
______________________________________________________
21. Write this number down and close calculator.
______________________________________________________
22. Open vStrip GUI. There will be three tabs present at top: [1 Input], [2 IFO ], and [3 Output].
______________________________________________________
23. In Input tab,
  • a) press Add and add your VTS_06_0.VOB.
    b) In Input Options/Start LBA, enter 0.
    c) In End LBA, enter our decimal value of 42597
______________________________________________________
24. In Output tab/Output name:, name file as “vStrip” and your destination folder as “Spiderman” folder.
______________________________________________________
25. Press Run button at the bottom to start processing. You should have a file named vStrip.vob in your “Spiderman” folder when done.
______________________________________________________
26. Close vStrip GUI
______________________________________________________
27. Rename our VTS_01_6.VOB in “Spiderman” folder as VTS_01_6.OLD. You can delete it if you feel confident.
______________________________________________________
28. To replace as our new VTS_01_6.VOB, rename our file, vStrip.vob, as VTS_01_6.VOB.
______________________________________________________
29. Get VTS Sectors
______________________________________________________
Note of Interest: Initially, the following steps, in order, were to
  • 1. Strip out our French audio and subtitles
    2. Menu-strip VIDEO_TS.VOB
    3. Menu-strip VTS_01_0.VOB to achieve our goal of fitting the movie unto a DVD

When I menu-stripped VOB-IDs 3 and 5 in VTS_01_0.IFO afterwards, I ran into problems in scene selections with wrong entry points. With further testing, I found that my problem was in stripping VOB-Id 3 first. VOB-Id 4, our scene selection menus, was renamed as our new VOB-Id 3 and navigations got corrupted.

So with further testing, I had to strip VOBId 5 first(Stripping Movie Menus - Part 1) and then strip VOBID 3 (Stripping Movie Menus - Part 2) in a later step. Trust me. I worked on fixing this problem for two days. It’s safe to strip VIDEO_TS.IFO before or after. Let’s do VTS_01_1.IFO first.
______________________________________________________
STRIPPING MOVIE MENUS-PART 1

30. Select VTS_01_0.IFO in “Spiderman” folder and press VOB Extras.
______________________________________________________
31. Check these options
  • Strip VobIDs
Correct VOB-Unit (Navigation Pack) pointers in VOB-files
    Correct original IfO files
    Auto-copy menu-files to destination
Set your Destination directory to “English” sub-folder.
______________________________________________________
32. Press OK.
______________________________________________________
33. Check all VobIds except 5 (see b]Note of Interest[/b] above to refresh your memory) and press “strip it” button.
______________________________________________________
34. Copy new VTS_01_* files in “English” sub-folder into “Spiderman” folder to overwrite.
______________________________________________________
STRIPPING MENUS IN VIDEO_TS.IFO

35. Since we did a delete playback of all our VOB-ids earlier, the clips are still there taking up unneeded space. We just need to keep the smallest one. Nero complains when we have a file that’s less than 2Kb. I have three methods on finding the smallest video clip.
  • a) DVDplay each one and look to the top left. This is the number of frames that our VOB-id contains. Go through all VOB-Ids and pick the least amount.

    b) Open VIDEO_TS.VOB with Vobrator and selecting each VOB-Ids, you will be shown at the left how big the file.

    c) By just viewing. Through experience, you’ll know which one uses less bytes. VOB-Id 2 is our PG-13 declaration. Less graphics and less play than our FBI Warnings.
Your selected VOB-Id should be the same as me, VOB-Id 2. This is what we want to keep. The rest we can strip.
______________________________________________________
36. Select VIDEO_TS.IFO in “Spiderman” folder and press Menu Extras.
______________________________________________________
37. Check these options.
  • Strip VobIDs
Correct VOB-Unit (Navigation Pack) pointers in VOB-files
    Correct original IfO files
    Auto-copy menu-files to destination
Set your Destination directory to “English” sub-folder.
______________________________________________________
38. Press OK.
______________________________________________________
39. Check only “VobId 2” to keep and press “strip it” button..
______________________________________________________
40. Copy new VIDEO_TS.* files in “English” sub-folder into “Spiderman” folder to overwrite.
______________________________________________________
41. Get VTS Sectors. Don’t worry if you get the error “IFO EndSectors does not match the file size”. Just keep pressing OK. We will correct that in next step.
______________________________________________________
STRIPPING STREAMS

42. We will now strip out our unwanted streams and at the same time, update our VTS_01_0.IFO because of size change to our new VTS_01_6.VOB.
______________________________________________________
43. Select VTS_01_0.IFO in “Spiderman” folder and press VOB Extras button.
______________________________________________________
44. Check …
In Options:
  • Strip Stream’s
    Correct VOB-Unit pointers in VOB-Files
    Correct original VOB Files
In File/Directory paths: AutoCopy Menu-files to destination.
______________________________________________________
45. For Destination directory, set it to your sub-folder “English”
______________________________________________________
46. Press OK.
______________________________________________________
47. Keep only English Audio 1 and subpicture 1 and ensure “correct IFO tables” checked.
______________________________________________________
48. Strip it and wait. You know the procedure.
______________________________________________________
49. When done, press OK.
______________________________________________________
50. Copy only VIDEO_TS.VOB in “Spiderman” folder to “English” sub-folder. We will work on VTS_01_0.IFO in next step.
______________________________________________________
STRIPPING MOVIE MENUS – PART 2

51. Select VTS_01_0.IFO in “Spiderman” folder
______________________________________________________
52. We are now going to strip VOBid 3 only (see Note of Interest after step 30 to refresh your memory). Press VOB Extras.
______________________________________________________
53. Check these options:
  • Strip VobIDs
Correct VOB-Unit (Navigation Pack) pointers in VOB-files
    Correct original IfO files
    Auto-copy menu-files to destination
Set your Destination directory to “English” sub-folder. Files in English will be overwritten.
______________________________________________________
54. Press OK.
______________________________________________________
55. Check only VOBid 3 and press “strip it” button.
______________________________________________________
56. When done, select new VTS_01_0.IFO in “English” sub-folder and Get VTS Sectors.
______________________________________________________
57. One last tweak. Select VTS_01_0.IFO in “English” sub-folder and go to VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / PGC-MENU_7 / PGC Command Table:, edit

OLD > 1.Pre Command Set GPreg<8> mov (set-val)<0> [71 00 00 08 00 00 00 00 ]
NEW > 1.Pre Command (LinkPGCN) Link PGC 5 [20 04 00 00 00 00 00 05 ]

Translation: Audio menu is disabled.
______________________________________________________
58. Save VTS_01_0.IFO
______________________________________________________
59. Get VTS Sectors one last time.
______________________________________________________
60. Preview/Test! Test! Test!
______________________________________________________
61. Burn movie. I successfully burnt it using Imgtool 0.95 with reallocation unchecked.

Hi 2COOL, great cheatsheet. I followed your cheatsheet step by step but left spanish instead of english subtitles. At the beginning of chapter 17 the spanish subtitles show for about ten seconds and then turn off. Do you know what could of caused this or what I can do to fix it?

Thanks,
Bill
