Assimilation is inevitable. Resistance is futile. We (the U.S.) are the Borg.

Just wanted to say thanks for a great tool. I've used it on several films, and it works very well. The preview function is a great addition to the program, as before I had to restore and try again at a different % on the slider for the menu picture. :-)

Hey jean, I notice that sometimes, for some reason, animated menus cells alternate sharp and slightly blurred frames.
While imperceptible in sequence, this is quite noticeable when those frames are isolated due to the fuzzy writing.
I can't catch this in MenuShrink™ tiny preview window though, and have to go the empirical way to get the goodies.
Is there a way to maximize that window that I haven't found, or can you add this?
It would be suuuper

MenuShrink™ I LIKE that!!!

You can resize the preview window at will (and menushrink remembers the size from run to run). Give it a shot! MenuSHrink only uses an I-frame for the menu, but I've seen cases (probably with interlaced material) where the still menu seemed to "oscillate" between two frames on my standalone. I"m not sure that's what you mean though...

Hey, me again (woopie doo!) I was trying to shrink Carnival Of Souls (R1 criterion) menu. It has a lot of text stills in it (essays, interviews verbatim, etc.) and when accessing those in the shrinked menu, Media Player Classic and DVD Tray Player hang. They're the kind of still with 3 buttons (backward, index and forward) and as soon as I select one of those buttons the player freeze. I'm too lazy to test on a standalone, but obviously something is not kosher. I finally shrinked the menu with VobBlanker by manually selecting the large cell only, witch give me the same final size result, but it's tedious

Which version are you using? If you're using version 2.05 or later, I know that something I changed (in the VOBU_SRI area) to fix something on one user's standalone makes mediaplayerclassic hang on some menus (not quite sure yet which ones and why). I need to fix that in the next beta. Can you go back and check 2.04 and see if you get the same problem?
You'll find it here:
http://jean.laroche.free.fr/MenuShrink/Betas
Let me know!
Thanks!

I was using v2.07 and yes v2.04 fix this
Btw, do I have to delete the MenuShrink folder in my 'Application Data' profile folder when I change versions?

no you don't have to delete anything... All this stuff is backwards compatible, so to speak. You can hardly say that 2.04 "fixes" the problem in 2.07 , as 2.07 came after 2.04!
Anyway, 2.08 will fix that, I just need to go back and take a look at what I changed in the VOBU_SRI and figure out exactly what it is that mediaplayerclassic does not like! I'll keep you posted.

To post images, I find the easiest solution is to host them on Image Shack, and use the tag they provide in your post. That way you don't have to wait for an admin to authorize it!

MenuShrink 2.08

People,
I've put MenuShrink 2.08 in the Betas directory, http://jean.laroche.free.fr/MenuShrink/Betas/ . It fixes the VOBU_SRI bug that caused mediaplayerclassic to hang, and it also fixes a small problem that sometimes prevented MenuShrink from restoring a backup.

Still a beta, so use with relative caution (although there isn't that much different from 2.0, really!).

MenuShrink Version 2.1 is here!

Version 2.1 has the following main new features:
  • The VTSM_C_ADT table is now fixed if it was incorrect to begin with. DVD Shrink should no longer complain in such (rare) cases.
  • The LOG is now in color. This will make it much easier to see warnings and errors. Thanks jsoto!!
  • MenuShrink is more clever than before when it comes to skipping "useless" menus.
along with a couple bug fixes.
Get the new version at the usual place:
http://jean.laroche.free.fr/MenuShrink/
Make sure to refresh the download page to get version 2.1!

Here's the change log.

UI:
  • The LOG now has color, which makes it much easier to see warnings and errors. Thanks jsoto!
  • Cells that were not referenced in the original DVD are now flagged in the log.
Engine:
  • MenuShrink now fixes the VTSM_C_ADT when it's not correct to begin with. This fixes problems related to DVD Shrink complaining when opening menu-shrunk DVDs with incorrect VTSM_C_ADT tables.
  • In those rare cases where the button definition changes in the middle of a cell, MenuShrink now uses the last buttong definition, which is more likely to be the right one.
  • MenuShrink now updates some of the navpack's VOBU_SRI pointers, which fixes a problem one user encountered on his DVD recorder.
  • If all the commands in a menu are NOPs or LinkNextProgram, MenuShrink will "kill" the cell (the menu is essentially a useless "intro"). This makes for better menu navigation.
Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug in the save log routine that sometimes caused garbled output.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented restoring some backup files in some weird cases.
  • Fixed a bug that caused menus to not show when animated highlights were present (very rare). This was the case for example for Spiderman 1. MenuShrink now only keeps the first subpic unit it finds in the menu.

Enjoy!
