The futility of HD-DVD vs Blueray war

A good read from the washington post.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...1101607_2.html

Most notably the last paragraph:

When the market malfunctions and a format war like Blu-ray vs. HD DVD forces customers to gamble with their purchases, they can react in funny ways. A few years ago, two competing audio-CD replacements, Super Audio Compact Disc and DVD-Audio, found themselves eclipsed by music downloads that often provided lower quality than CDs but offered far more convenience.

If the market for high-definition movies remains stuck in its current state of trench warfare, don't be surprised if many of the HDTVs streaming out of factories and into homes wind up spending much of their time as really large computer monitors.

Couldn't have put it better myself.
