wierd blocks in d2v file

anyone ever seen this or have a possible solution: (click on pics to make larger)

the dvd was ripped w/ dvddecrypter, then vobs loaded in dvd2avi, & heres the .avs file i took the photo in vdub w/:
SetWorkingDir("C:\Program Files\Video\Misc Tools\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\")
Loadplugin("mpeg2dec3.dll")
MPEG2Source("C:\DVD\Projects\test2\test2.d2v")

its not visible in the vobs when played in powerdvd, it seems to be every other frame then after a few it will have a couple good or bad ones in a row then every other 1 again. i have ripped the dvd twice & made the d2v file twice w/ 2 different copies of the dvd & always starts at the same place(towards the end) & it continues for awhile then will clear up sort of.

if i encode w/ xvid it (obviously carries the bad frames over) appears to get worse & continues until the end of the encode once it starts

heres a couple more photos:

and 1 from a good frame between 2 bad ones:

ive only run across this 1 other time(dvd) & didnt get it narrowed down to the d2v file, so any help this time would be great. thanks

Try it with DGMPGDec 1.4.0. If it is still broken then upload a VOB to my FTP server and tell me the filename here.

Also, be sure not to rip multiangles. That will mess up DVD2AVI and DGIndex.

wow thats a much nicer program, just being able to play from any point is worth it.

anyhow yes it shows up in dgmpg also, it always starts at the same place (frame) but but clears up in different places. its really wierd so im trying to clip out the part of the vob for you that is the culprit its "hslip.prob.vob" i hope you can make more since of it.

let me know if you would like the whole vts

@HelpSlip

I have duplicated your problem. It hits a video syntax error and does not recover properly. I have a good idea what the problem is, but I may not have time until this weekend to fix it.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It's time to thoroughly review video error handling in both DGIndex and DGDecode.

Don, there's also another problem in this area. Once a Video or Audio error occurs, the error can't be cleared unless you open a different VOB. (you might have to close DGIndex and reopen it, don't remember)

wierd blocks in d2v file

Hi,
I've experienced the same problem.
When I hit "preview" in DGIndex, the "status" - "Info" field starts showing "video error 4" message. At the same time the image becomes blocky, and stays blocky till the end. But if I position the start frame after the problem frame, the video goes on smooth.

The problem stays when the video stream is demuxed from the VOB.
Encoding of this stream with TMPGEnc works fine though.

Might that be a trick they use to protect the DVD streams?

Any help or workaround will be highly appreciated.
Many thanks to Donald for his developement efforts.

You'll be happy to hear that I have located and fixed the problem you are experiencing. I've tested it successfully on your file. As expected, the video error handling was not as robust as it could be. I want to look at some other things in video error handling before releasing a new beta, but I'll definitely release a fix this weekend. This problem has been present in DVD2AVI/mpeg2dec from day 1. Thank you for exposing it.

@moquette

I could understand it if you were seeing video error 5, but you said 4. So can you please upload a VOB to my server that shows the problem? Thank you.

@Cyberia

What do you mean by "the error can't be cleared"? Are you referring to the info box field? Doesn't starting a new preview clear it?

In fact ONLY using the Play/Preview command clears out the info box field.

You can even load a different vob and the info field still says "video error 1" (or whatever)

The info box should be dismissed on a file load.

Sorry, I meant that the code *should* be modified so that the info dialog is dismissed.

@HelpSlip

Please try beta 4 for your "weird blocks" problem:

@moquette

If you want your problem solved, please upload a VOB. Thank you.

I think I found a similar problem from a different source:

I've uploaded the VOB file to your server.

@neuron2, thx again i appreciate the work. that new rels solved the issue i had
i was gonna try the other dvd that had this (similar) issue before replying but i havent had a chance, hopefully this weekend.

@madoka, do the blocks continue after that point or get any worse (those seem pretty minor) & did those happen in the "beta 4" version?
