Anyone get Lame to work in Virtualdub?

Has anyone gotten Lame mp3 compression to work
directly in Virtualdub. I'm using version 1.4.7
and have installed LameCom.dll and LameACM.dll v090d,
but get "Error initializing audio stream compression;
The requested conversion is not possible."

Any ideas?

You have to make sure you select the right frequency. If the source is 44100 you must choose that. Click show all formats if the right rate isn't listed. Hope that helps.

Yes, I have manage to get it to work.

I am using Window 2000, to get the Lame Codec to initial properly. You must also have the Professional version of Franhofer IIS MP3 Codec installed. You can get this additional codec from www.afterdawn.com.

Also, the Franhofer Codec MUST be listed Before the Lame Codec in the Audio Compression Codecs list. This list can be found in Control Panel->Sounds and Multimedia->Hardware->Audio Codec Properties->Properties. I do not understand why it needs to be this way, I have tried several different ways to install the lame codec but this is the only way that works for me.

Are you sure it's working? It seems to work for me when the Radium(Franhofer) is installed either before or after Lame. However, after encoding with Lame, the file info says Franhofer IIS. I'm wondering if Vdub fails to initialize Lame and chooses the other MP3 codec. What does you r file info say about the audio codec?

It says Franhofer IIS because thats what is to decompress the audio. If you record an MP3 using the regular LAME program it still shows up that way in VirtualDub.

In the beginning I got so tired of getting my radium mp3 pro codec mixed up with the mp3 windows one, so I deleted the windows default, solved my problems & radium is the default.

YUO ARE ALL WRONG

Sorry about the caps have to bring some attention

If both fraunhoffer and Lame are on the list LAME IS NOT WORKING
the fraunhoff ACM codec is doing all the encoding.
Try encod with both and you will se bit identical outputs as if lame was not installed.
The only thing you benefit from having nistalled both is that you have some new bitrates to choose from. but still franuhoffer ACM is doing the encoding.

This seem to bee the biggest misunderstandoing around the lameACM

This is how you use lame ACM

- uninstall fraunhoffer codec. (remmer to delete the files in c:\windows\system\)
- set time back the last millinium (EG 1997 - seem to bie som y2kbug)
- Install lame ACM codec (No need of lamecom. doom never got this to work so doen't listen to him :-) )

Now you will se the output is differen when you use lame acm.
HOWEVER - this acm is VERY BUGGY about 25%-66% of the time the sound will have mickey mouse sound output (to high pitch),
and the quality when it works is not much better then fraunhoff anyway. and no vbr or other fancu fetures. :-(

the acm in simpel word SUCKS
you are bettter of using lame.exe --alt-preset and mux it in with nandub

Could you explain why something encoded with Lame.exe still comes up as Franhofer in Virtualdub and Nandub?

Because franhofer is the codec used to decompress the audio that lame encodes.
