Matroska and Menus (Development stalled?)
Hi seeing the recent Commercial Developments (mainly by DivX Inc. and their partners ((Corel)Intervideo)) in this direction i wondered what is up with Matroska and its Menu system?
Maybe Christian, robUx4 or Betaboy can say something about its status or if even someone is working on it currently ![]() POIs would be Menuextract progress Authoring progress Directshow Navigation Filter and OSS Player implementation progress (VLC,Mplayer,CorePlayer,Betaplayer) For DivX Ultra it's allready reality 1 file (everything inside) and even ongoing hardware and software support

Our mailing list is the best place to ask such questions (as many of us don't come here).
Yes it is stalled right now. But we want to develop it (again) in the coming months. We don't have a definitive timeline but it should happen within 6 months or so. Given online video distribution is becoming common, it's time for people to get the same DVD extras when they purchase online. And matroska is well suited to fill that gap.

I see i tried your last examples of the XML structure with VLC and it works pretty good (non animated) so i wondered how it can bee that DivX is so fast and for Matroska almost everything seems to be ready except wide range Player and Hardware support. Just did my first DivX Ultra DVDrip with 1 click and this was shocking easy todo. But it's far from efficient as Matroska is with it's limited Codec support for now
![]() PS: I might also add that Corels System is very basic stuff they just create a chapter index (using divx6author) of the DVD and don't recreate (or use) the whole original DVD menu or chapters ![]() ![]() And it takes a long long time to complete also, 86 chapters those boys are crazy

On the matroska website forums, as far as I can tell, all questions on menu system development (pretty much every third post) seem to dead end and the last official looking post(from betaboy) on the subject was in 2007. Has there been any developments in development in the last year and a half?

We have been working on libmatroska and libebml 2.0 since then. Menus are still important but getting to 2.0 is just as important.
