good player replacing wmp

hi,

since i'm having problems playing divx files on wmp 8 after installing divx 5.0.1 pro i'm looking for a new player to replace wmp completely.

can anyone recommend a good player to take care of divx files and a good player to take care of all the different media files (mainly movies)

thanks

give mplayer2.exe (WMP 6.4) a try. If you're using winXP, it's located at C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe

When I had problems with WMP8 and DivX4.12, mplayer2 played the files properly.

BSPlayer is my favourite player! has built-in multilanguage support, built-in subtitle plug-in, has skin support, has many interesting options, give it a shot.

You can download the latest Build 486 here:
http://www.bstnet.org/bsplayer/
This build is fully compatible with DivX 5.x (at least in overlay mode2)

You can find many Skins here:

a good all-in-one solution is hard to find espically for free, youll have to settle for a few softwares instead of one , now lets sum up the possibilities

audio cd ripping
---------------------------------------
exact audio copy - http://exactaudiocopy.org/
cdex - http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

if you want the best (most accurate extraction possible) and willing to settle speed for quality then go with EAC and configure it properly (drive offsets espically) , otheriwse use cdex

for burnning audio cds burrrn would be best IMO
http://www.burrrn.net/?page_id=4 , for burnning mp3 data cds use cdburnerxp http://www.cdburnerxp.se , for playing dvds use kmplayer or vlc http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/index.php / http://www.videolan.org/

a good all in one audio solution (ripping/burnning audio and mp3 cds, converting between diffrent formats) is easy cd-da extractor, but its not free

Did you notice this thread is 6 years old? I prefer MediaMonkey and MPC.

Old and outdated thread, off topic last comments.

Quick summary of current leading open source players:

Mplayer based (with SMplayer and MPUI front ends) - complete stand alone package

VLC - complete stand alone package

Media player classic AKA MPC (looks similar to old WMP), with dshow codecs (ffdshow is enough usually)
