The last public update on AV1 I'm aware of is from
Netflix's forum on royalty-free video codecs back in October which mentioned a target of "
H1 2017" for freezing the bitstream. A talk giving a new status update on AV1
is scheduled for FOSDEM in early February which should hopefully provide a bit more detail.
