I haven't tried to use it outside of MPC-HC. For whatever reason it decided to choose ffdshow instead of DXVA until I forced it by adding it to external filters and setting it to prefer. Then it was all good. As long as no one else is running into it I'm good with that. You're right about having to tweak it on W7. MS decoders just don't like going away on their own.
