Regarding menus.
A while ago I tranfered some old disney VHS tapes to DVD for my neighbor who didn't have a VHS player anymore, but got a 4 year old in return. I did three movies per DVD and there having a little menu to select the right movie was actually quite handy. Just put a picture of Mowgli or Simba there and the little one can point at what she wants to watch.
Menus is certainly a useful feature for non-computer use where navigation sometimes becomes a little more complicated. Those 'explorers' on DVD players today aren't everything.
