Just one addition:
The noise reduction is very useful and improves quality if you capture to MJPEG, because the noise is reduced
before encoding. DCT codecs like MJPEG hate noise, and it's a good idea to get rid of it as much as possible before the encoding step. Although the on-the-fly noise reduction is not the best, it improves overall quality in this case. I wouldn't use it when capturing to Huffyuv, and for MJPEG I'd set the strength slider rather low, like five or six ticks.
