h264 8bit is the source video. codec and bit deep.

NV12 is the decoded frame format. lavfilter or any other decoder is decoding these frames to this example format.

NV12 is a 8 bit 4:2:0 colorspace could be YV12 too doesn't matter.

or in short it is what madVR gets as input.
