It could depends by a lot of things:
- When you mark the file as interlaced, are you encoding as topfield or bottomfield. Generally DV is bottomfield. If you set the wrong field, the playback will be jerky
- Other interlaced files plays smooth on VLC and WMP?
- Setting an interlaced file as progressive, it's an error. The standalone players will assume the file as progressive so the playback will stutters (this explain your latest statement)

So first of all you need to check if your DV file was correctly encoded (bottomfield interlaced?).
