I just assembled an htpc for a friend that has the most awfull collection of avi & divx ever seen.
Right now i use MN for chroma, Softcubic80 for luma.
Any better recommendation for such material.

I'm not a "scaling maniac" and this doesn't really relate to madVR, but try some of the "sharpen complex, deband and denoise" custom pixel shaders from janwillem32's (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=157634) "Video pixel shader pack". I use them myself with madVR for old TV rips and such and they do a stand-up job paired up with madVR.
