Sorry I didn't figure it out sooner. Kind of odd though as it can handle with ease Bicubic and Lanczos on battery.

Can anyone confirm that? Is there a workaround?
Change your Windows power settings for running on battery. In the advanced settings there's a part where you can set "When playing video" in "Multimedia settings" to "Optimise video quality" - this will let you use the same settings on battery as when charging.
