I have been using the 100-series drivers with my 6th gen CPU from the beginning. There is a cut-off with all Intel drivers, but in the case of the 100-series, the cut-off is 6th gen, not 9th gen. What's always been confusing about Intel drivers is overlap between their major revisions. With my 6th gen, I could also use the 15-series driver, for example.
