I had exactly the same problem... it's was playing fine on my Pioneer A04 but freezing after about 50mns in my setop player (APEX 1500).
I fixed the problem by using another DVD-R brand. It looks like some cheap DVD-Rs don't work that well in setop players
After many tries the only cheap brand that worked fine 100% of the time was the Meritline dark purple DVD-R.
