Have you been cropping 2.35:1 images and encoding them using 720x480/576 pixels. And then MPEG4Modifier to correct the DAR back to 2.35:1?

If so it's quite nifty feature. And such is the power of DAR over PAR. But you can do it with XviD and DivX too!
