VOB files are for DVDs, not for Blu-rays. I'm sorry to hear about those problems. I remember when I tried using Adobe software it crashed often and because of that I moved over to Vegas and never looked back, as it is quite stable (their Movie Studio Suite is the equivalent of the Adobe Elements product).
Just a random idea, as I don't use Adobe -- you may find you can losslessly stitch together some files (such as MP4 or M2TS) with a product like VideoRedo or similar. Then you could remux to Blu-ray using TSMuxer and burn a Blu-ray disc.
