WMV9: Muxing Troubles

With the latest version of ffdshow, I've encoded a small video with the Windows Media 9 codec built in. I like to encode with ffdshow's VFW because it offers better compression, a more familiar interface, and an indespensible "sharpness" modifier.

I've found that to mux this video stream into a .wmv file, one can utilize the power of the "vidtoasf" command line tool to create an asf, and then the Windows Media Stream Editor to rip the stream out of the asf and into a wmv.

However, I've been running into some problems recently with this method. All output files are corrupted (or at least, they play for a few frames, pause for 10 seconds, play for a few more, etc).

How else can I mux the avi WMV9 video stream into the wmv container from an AVI?
