HI everyone.

just received the latest divx newsletter saying that intervideo 4 platinum converts dvds to divxmedia format, with chapters and menus.

i gave it a try over the weekend but everytime i open it it just hangs on the splash screen for over 5 minutes only to display"failed to load xml file" i press ok and the application opens.

i select the dvd and select divx format, it converts the dvd but it just hangs and do nothing when creating the menus for the divx file.

i remember reading that divx media menus are created using the xml language.

isnt the menu not being created because of the "failed to load xml file"warning?

the demo only lasts for 14 days and i wanted to know if it works before the demo ends.

so, is windvd better than divx converter?

i tried it with a small dvd created with dvd lab pro using 2 music video clips and a simple menu where i couls select the 2 clips.

when watching the avi produced by it it looked ok, the 2 clips lasted for 4.30 minutes and the intervideo dvd copy produced a file of 45 megs (abot 10 mgs for each minute)
but failed to produce the menu.

any ideas why? or does it work with someone else?

Have found the following-selecting encode to divx format (not divx avi)
It automatically creates its own motion menu with static background.
Does not do any cropping and encodes at 640x480 regardless of source AR.Encodes at 1250 kbps video and 224 kbps mp3 audio.
Only with DVD rips it can create a divx format file without splitting
With individual avis, it will do batch encoding and create individual divx format files.
Most surprising-divx player on PC shows the .divx files created as uncertified.
Haven't tried playback on my dvp642 as yet.

I tested the Intervideo program yesterday also. Had exactly the same result as mgh. A very generic menu with some crappy background music. No cropping of the move and actually ended up with the wrong aspect ratio ( 2:35 ended up being 16:9 squezzed ).

One interesting program that came with the software was avimux.exe. Maybe this can be used instead of fuse.exe from the DivX site. I will give it a try.

Did not have any warnings like " failure to load XML file" and i'm running the 14 days trial also.

Hi, i think you can change the backgrounds and music, find the directory where intervideo is and you will find the pics and music, just replace them with some of your own with the same properties.

my demo stiill doesnt work, takes ages 10 minutes to get to the main screen and doesnt produce the menus just the avi files.

Can you guys confirm if you have winxp service pack 2 installed on your system?

thanks

inside the intervideo installation diectory there are two installation files that have xml and sp2 in their name. Could any1 tell me what they are?

not too happy with this compared to auto gk and gk programs. first, i don't see it converting the actual menus. all it does it split each chapter into it's own .avi file. no chapter points either when you tell it to the main movie. also looks like it uses an older verison of divx.

also not a lot of control over your encode/sizes... sorry, i'm sticking to autogk for now. and plus, my video player can't handle menus/chapters in divx files yet anyway :)
