I've been muxing dual language AVIs of tv series for a while with no problem, until a few days ago. I have a xvid rip from DVD with original AC3 audio and the same xvid rip with mp3 audio in a foreign language.
Upon opening the foreign one in VirtualDubMod to extract the audio, VDub complains about incorrect VBR headers, so I decompress the mp3 audio to an uncompressed wav and recompress it to CBR mp3 via lame. So far so good.
When I mux the new CBR mp3 to the original xvid+AC3 with VDubMod, I get the following:
* No matter the track order, the default track plays fine (whether AC3 or mp3)
* The alternate track either crashes Bsplayer (my reference player) upon switching to it, or stays mute.
If I mux via AviMux I get a sure crash of Bsplayer on opening if the alt track is VBR, and the same behaviour as above if it is a CBR mp3.
So far if Bsplayer liked a file, my standalone divx player did too. VLC is too smart a player to use as a test (it plays all muxed files without a problem). I tried and burned one of the problematic files, and the hw player chocked on them.
What should I check for in order to get a playable dual language avi? I'm stomped. What should I do?
Tx
