View Full Version : XVid turbo ;) support in AutoGK

It says it all: It would be great if you could support Xvid's turbo setting for a much faster transcode with almost no loss of quality. I found no way to do it manually with AutoGK. So if you could put an option in the Hidden Options or even activate it by default that would be great.

Thanks

Firstly, this is probably never gonna happen because len0x has already made it clear (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=692986#post692986) in various contexts that he won't be exposing individual XviD options for the users to mess around.

Secondly, Turbo comes into play only if you are using QPEL/B-frames, and AutoGK doesn't use QPEL. So Turbo in AutoGK is only "half" effective (you can only affect b-frames with Turbo in AutoGK).

Lastly, Turbo should never be made default since there IS a drop in quality while using it, whether you realize it or not. Turbo results in faster motion estimation when using QPEL/B-frames and hence the results are not that "accurate" as they would have been if Turbo wasn't used.

Yeah the general recommendation is to have it on and on some, esp. older CPUs (no SSE) it's quite a difference.

And there is already the credits and cartoon mode for Xvid in the hidden options. Also the quality loss is generally neglectible.

b.t.w.: "codec options will never be customisable in AutoGK as they interfere with its resizing algorithm" (len0x) should not apply either. I just can't imagine it interfering with the resizing, as it doesn't change the frames too much.

But... as I found out: On the current Xvid-1.1. beta2 it has hardly any impact in mode decision mode on a current CPU. i still have to check the older one though.
